What makes this jutsu versatile in battle? It can be used as an attack, a defense and a distraction. The attack is straight forward, just use the technique when your opponent is standing there. Defense when someone is rushing at you, you can quickly use this technique to make distract them giving you time to counter anything they use. A distraction so that you can get them off balance because they must dodge it with great speed or they must use a Jutsu and when they are focused on evading that technique, you could use another to attack them.
What restricts this jutsu's usage in battle? The fact that it is weak and somewhat slow and easy to break for an Earth Technique, and also easily evade able by going under ground.

It also appears that after digging, the ground can be returned to its original state, leaving no trace of where the user entered the earth.
How would you counter this jutsu? Someone with a Byakugan or, if you are just barely underground, could see your chakra through the ground and smash the ground or something of the sort. Or someone without a those eyes could just completely overturn the ground where you went under.
What makes this jutsu versatile in battle?It it a great technique for dodging other techniques, thus great for defense. It is also great for sneaking up on your opponent and also when in Hidden Mist when you can not find you opponent, you can go under the ground and sense the vibrations of your opponent and find him that way.
What restricts this jutsu's usage in battle?It does not protect you from a Jutsu that would completely overturn the Earth, which when overturned you would be open for an attack or you could be harmed by being jabbed by the rocks being overturned. Also someone could destroy the Earth you are in with a simple Lightning technique.

Description: The user will first perform the required hand seals Rabbit → Boar → Rat → Horse → Tiger → Snake and then by flowing concentrated chakra from one's palms into the Dragon Veins flowing underground, one can tear the earth apart, creating large chasms by firstly raising the earth in the desired location and then splitting that peice of earth through the center. The length, width, direction, and curve of the chasm are all up to the user. Manipulating the Dragon Veins requires fine chakra control, but if one has such skill, they can use this technique to divide the space between the enemy and their own team in two, destroy enemy camps or defences, and even to attack.
Note: This does not split the earth appart directly to cause opponents to fall in the fissure.
How would you counter this jutsu?Well there isn't really a counter to it because it isn't trying to go for the enemy, if the enemy gets stuck they can just climb up the walls with their chakra.
