They share the number one spot with the exact same score. They excel at each other’s weaknesses while they are also able to master the ability to shield their individual weaknesses e.g. by either entering special modes or by simply adapting their strategy accordingly. In essence they can both beat each other and most likely, most times, it would come down to minor details which would’ve otherwise been irrelevant (condition, surprise aspect, killing intent, etc). Kishi > speculation
this here is very nice but i think that ms would give itachi a win but it would be close

i see many flaws in your argument
1. you bring up tsukoymi? sage can suck in and disrupt chakra so he can get out of genjutsu plus this is a sannin who fought in the war im pretty sure genjutsu isnt a big deal for him
2.'' itachi just keeps spamming fire'' really? itachi doesnt have infinity chakra so no i dont see him spamming fire
3.amarersau um.. im pretty i saw in the manga jirayia sealing fire so i think he can seal this to
4. sussano? true that is the only thing i see getting in the way of jirayi but he has bring down the house and ma and pa on his side too your argument is flawed
I didn't realy read the OP so I won't comment on that but this is realy silly. Scene is clearly discussing Naruto and Jiraiya and Kisame and Itachi themselves.
Are you suggesting "that guy" is Kurenai or she is the swordsman from Mist? Don't tell me that you misunderstood whom the Sanin (jiraiya ) was protecting at that point of time.

Statements characters make is always kinda iffy, however, Kisame usually is overly confident in fighting people, so I think that's something to take in to consideration. Itachi had to warn him about both Kakashi and Gai, as he viewed them as nobodies. This is probably the only time he's admitted inferiority or been "scared"(that's the wrong word for it, really, but I can't think of the right one at the moment).
Combining Kisame's statement with Jiraiya stating confidently that he was going to kill both Itachi and Kisame right then and there when he saved Naruto is another thing to consider. You would think Kishi is almost trying to make a point there.
But either way it's arguable, and there's no real way to determine who would win.

Ignorance all around this ****ing forum. When a guy brings up pure facts, further supported by nice, clean logic, here is what fanboys do. They either read the whole thing, and unable to prove it wrong, cling on whatever might still provide them some hope that their completely illogical thinking of their favorite character being an unbeatable entity with godlike powers is true (like ignoring the entire post and claiming that databooks are irrelevant), or they resort to possible "plot no jutsu" event on Kishimoto's part, or they bring up another character, compare how the two guys mentioned in this thread would fare against him and base their arguments on that, overlooking the fact that that doesn't mean jack shit since every ability has other abilities it's strong and weak against. Long since I haven't seen someone, who bases his arguments solely on logic and manga scans.

Actually Tsuchi i retract my statement. At first when itachi talks about the increase of help i automatically thought he was talking about kurenai and asuma, but after consideration he was actually talking about naruto and jiraiya. The chapters purpose was to show that there were many translations to what he said. Not that i take what a character says seriously, let alone somebody like itachi's.
I'll +rep you though for being annoying in a good way.
I will create a kisame > jiraiya and itachi > jiraiya discussion thread in the future and i hope youd be there. By that time ive recharged and ready to go U_U

That was the point they were following Jiraiya and Naruto. They had already finished their business with Asuma and Kurenai. Why would Itachi wait for them out of town or plan anything- beating the dead horse?

The sentense translated may vary but their meaning is not changing essentially if paid proper attention minus bias.
Kisame>Jiraiya? Kisame would be a stone toad if he sucked Jiraiya's sage chakra and wasn't he rendered totally useless in the toad belly itself? Meh.. I doubt it would be worth the bother seeing the title.

I haven't read all of the posts in this thread and I don't plan to, but regardless of what ya'lls personal opinions are, Itachi stated himself in chapter 144 that he couldn't do any better than a stalemate against Jiraiya even if he had reinforcements (Kisame). Kisame outright stated that he couldn't beat Jiraiya. The databook supports this as well by giving Jiraiya and Itachi the highest stats in the series at 35.5/40 each. That's about all I have to say.
Even though I think he was more referring to Kisame, if Itachi said it, I have little reason to doubt it. Oh and he didn't say Jiraiya would defeat them, just that it would still end up as a draw or that Jiraiya wouldn't be killed.
