mmm iono bout that the DBZ character were wayyy too overpowered and some of the fights were just dragged out way to long with two kamemehas blasting at each other for 2 or more episodes.

DBZ is just raw power VS raw power, naruto uses strategy in their fights which makes them much more enjoyable.

I say Naruto>DBZ in fights as well
Thats why you Read the Manga.

All animes Drag Fights on, Naruto and BLeach do it.

so basically your saying dbz is one of the worst animes and naruto is one of the best, but what you fail to understand is that naruto was inspired by dbz

DBZ was a cool anime for it's time but it just got severely repetitive and boring to watch after a while some of you guys have to admit that at least....

To protect myself from getting Negative rep, I'll just say that I used to watch DBZ. But, I don't anymore. I honestly don't care too much for it anymore.

So I used to watch DBZ when I was younger and thought it was the best thing ever(who on here didnt); but looking back I realize its probably one of the worst animes ever made. Horrible story line and no character development whatsoever.

I mean practically all the main villains (frieza, buu, etc..) had no motive and just wanted to destroy the world just because. No depth to any of the characters, no backstory on the villains everything is just black and white. Either evil or good.

In naruto and other animes countless episodes are spent developing the main characters and the villains and how they became the villain. I mean all of naruto is about how Sasuke grows into a villain. DBZ is just a very simplistic anime.Only thing going to DBZ was the action. Im just saiyin (lol see wat I did there)...
^^ I LOL at this. dragonballz is still considered an amazing animeU_U

Technically, he's right. If you consider the countless anime in the world, many anime got better plot than Dragon Ball.

But still, it's useless to insult DB series cause none of those will have be where they are today if Dragon ball was never made. It's the source of all animes/mangas. Without it, the world will have remain almost clueless about the manga generation.
that's how anime/manga at that time, its the best at that time, people like that kinda anime/manga at that time, and the influence is something that only One piece can surpass, even now beside One Piece none of the other modern manga has surpassed DB sales,

and i wouldn't call DBZ the worst since the concept is totally different with modern anime nowadays, DB is pure fighting manga no drama like nowadays anime/manga, it have its own league among the masterpiece manga/animeU_U

Now that's where I believe you're wrong. Anime maybe, but not manga. Naruto was one of the first manga scanned into the mainstream. Saint Seiya is as big as Dragon Ball IN JAPAN. Why do you think Namco Bandai still has games of it even if it's finished already?

And if you think I'm lying, there have been some mangas that have been scanned WAAAYYYY before Naruto did. Ever heard of Whisper of the Heart? Hareluya Boy? I'm sure you've heard of Slam Dunk. None of them catapulted the manga industry in the US to new heights, but Naruto did.

DB moments are memorable since it's all we've been exposed with when we were kids. It doesn't take a literary genius to figure out that DB was written with only action in mind, and when you compare it to today's somewhat half-assed plot progression it looks like turd. Don't get me wrong, I like DB as much as the next DB-otaku, but you have to face the truth that sometimes nostalgia goggles can only get you this far.

I'm sure OP moments will be etched in the brain of Japan for the next 20 years. It's been Shounen Jump's flagship now for 13 years; why do you think Toriyama agreed to a cross over with Oda and not Kishimoto?

Although I concede that it's been popular for the longest time already.

Right, because in the A&M world only western opinion matters? Dragon Ball is that popular today since it received a VERY GOOD DUB before some other companies butchered the succeeding titles (Martian Successor Nadesico, Dai Guard, One Piece). Naruto also received very good reception in CN and Bleach in Adult Swim. Don't peg it on being the founder of the popularity kingdom, because as far as I'm concerned Touch is as popular as DB in the Land of the Rising Sun, where it really matters.
Well, I may have messed it up a little, by at times, stating anime and manga in the same boat. But still, even if I'll agree that Naruto hugely influenced the manga culture, I still think it's mainly due to DB - even if Dragon Ball mainly influenced the world via anime. Sure, it wasn't like that in Japan but in US and mainly European countries, mangas got a better recognition due to anime. Since, DB is kinda the pioneer of all animes, it definitely made the field much easier for mangas and animes to pierce. Even helped the catapult of Naruto mangas and all other manga. I know many friends and fans of DB in childhood that may not know Naruto or One Piece but still, if I ask any fan of Naruto or One Piece, it’s kinda impossible that that person never heard of Dragon ball.

I still think that it's mostly because anime/mangas were relatively unknown in Europe and US that DB made such huge impact. Yes, action helped but we were so less in touch with other mangas that the influence of it was highly intensified. See nowadays, in a single day, you can see several awesome moments in few instances - you see an Ichigo unleashing its Bankai, then you move on to see Naruto turning into Kyuubi mode and another awesome moments in another manga ect....The impact is diminished compared to DBZ; though they are better because we are over-exposed. Impact is intensified when target is less; there are fewer chances to get diversion in views. In that way, I think it’s pretty impossible to re-iterate the influential feat that DB once done.

Sure, the OP moments are great but I'll doubt it will stay for more than 10 years in people's mind like DB. Sure OP is more original but we must consider that there are so much more expostion towards other mangas nowadays that in the times of DBZ. Also, we don't know how many more awesome manga will be released in the next 10 years. The said flagship could change hands easily but the longevity won't be given for all. In fact, longevity and influence of DBZ is unique in my eyes.

Well, it's perhaps where our views and opinions differ - you consider that Japan is where it matters but for me, popularity and influence should be determined from a global and worldwide view while the real critics and sales ratings should come from where it's been originated (Japan). Both got their places but when I talk about popularity and influence attained, I’d like it to be in a global way. In this way, I think no manga can influence and gain same popularity as well as longevity in the world as DBZ did in current time. Sure, sales/stats may state other things but in the mind of people, DBZ etched something immortal that'll live while the other mangas might not get such longevity due to over-saturation of mangas.

Ballsy move. :p

Its funny, because if you really think about it and put nostalgia aside, DBZ really wasn't that great of a series. Of course it had awesome fighting scenes and some cool characters, and it did bring Anime into the mainstream, but in terms of depth and development it was pretty bad. xd
