Frieza didn't want to destroy the universe, he wanted to become the ruler of it, and he destroyed any one who opposed him well exept his last opponents, Cell wanted to be the strongest one in the universe he wanted to be unrivaled by anyone by any means, except Buu, he was just pure destruction, so why you saying there was not motive for the villains? Isn't Tobi the same ambition as Frieza's? or like Cell's? Tell me, or you just made this thread to have a booming thread? If you have nothing better to say then don't say anything at all man, and stop wasting everybody's time, that's what you doing. :flaw:

B L A S P H E M Y ! ! !

I understand your points but too say such a thing publicly? Where I come from you'd be roundhouse kicked then headbutted the little homies would get you to your knees be squeezing your nuts. It didn't have depth but it's a classic, why? Because we loved every second of it and was probably what drew us in to anime. Goku going Super Saiyan for the first time? That defined epic fool. Teen Gohan turning Super Saiyan 2 that defined Legendary. Shame on you :flaw:

definitely one of the stupidest threads on here. Whats worse is, your serious.

Every (yes EVERY) successful anime after DBZ has copied it in some form or another. If you honestly believe this you're deluded........or stupid.

All of the big ones of today like ichigo, naruto, and even luffy have borrowed goku's development in some way or another.........

Dragonball was Godly

Dragonball Z was repetitive, but watchable if you didn't think about the plot.

Dragonball GT was utter shit, and is non-canon.

It depends on how you view it. Naruto and Shippuden could counted as terrible anime due to the LARGE amount of fillers it had. However DBZ was meant to short, sweet, and to the point.

Also a lot of the Villians had/have backstories.

Radditz: Decent to small backstory
Vegeta: Lots of backstory. Hell, he even talks about.
Nappa: Decent to small Backstory
Frieza: Lots of backstory.
Cell: He probably had the most backstory and contined to influence/be mentioned later in the series
Buu: Has millions of years of backstory. He is probably tied with Cell.

You can't sit there and tell me there's no back story to the villians because from what I see most of the villians are on par with most Naruto villians.

As for Heroes:

Vegeta: he had HUGE, I mean SO MUCH character developement.
Goku: He was in three anime series from when he was 12 to like 65ish.
Gohan: In DBZ had a lot of character developement.
Future Trunks: no need to say anything, he was just the good.
Piccolo: Had a HUGE character overhaul.

It's not what you see, it's what you understand.

Also here is something else think of it this way.

DBZ = Orginal Xbox
Naruto = Xbox 360

DBZ was superior for it's time, but has been outdated. However it will always be a Legend among true anime fans.

Yes I know DBZ was an influence but Kishi actually decided to add depth to his story and characters
What deep story Naruto is all about catching Sasuke....Example Sakura was one of main characters what do u know about her almost nothing thats how deep story is in Naruto, and Kakashis father Sakumo White Fang legend bla bla 1st 2nd Hokages all legends and we know only few things about them...

So I used to watch DBZ when I was younger and thought it was the best thing ever(who on here didnt); but looking back I realize its probably one of the worst animes ever made. Horrible story line and no character development whatsoever.

I mean practically all the main villains (frieza, buu, etc..) had no motive and just wanted to destroy the world just because. No depth to any of the characters, no backstory on the villains everything is just black and white. Either evil or good.

In naruto and other animes countless episodes are spent developing the main characters and the villains and how they became the villain. I mean all of naruto is about how Sasuke grows into a villain. DBZ is just a very simplistic anime.Only thing going to DBZ was the action. Im just saiyin (lol see wat I did there)...
after you sayin this you deserve to get beaten up. You are a silly idiotic fool/retard. DBZ is legendary you idiot most of the other animes have copied DBZ like naruto because DBZ is genius so go f*** yourself

Well, I may have messed it up a little, by at times, stating anime and manga in the same boat. But still, even if I'll agree that Naruto hugely influenced the manga culture, I still think it's mainly due to DB - even if Dragon Ball mainly influenced the world via anime. Sure, it wasn't like that in Japan but in US and mainly European countries, mangas got a better recognition due to anime. Since, DB is kinda the pioneer of all animes, it definitely made the field much easier for mangas and animes to pierce. Even helped the catapult of Naruto mangas and all other manga. I know many friends and fans of DB in childhood that may not know Naruto or One Piece but still, if I ask any fan of Naruto or One Piece, it’s kinda impossible that that person never heard of Dragon ball.
Hmm, that's kinda possible. For people who're born in the 2000's and those countries with limited anime airings (also those born in Japan in the same time period) might have never heard of DB, hence DB Kai. Toei knows how to milk the most out of its franchises.

I concede that DB paved the road. Naruto smoothed out the asphalt though, if you get my analogy. There are many members here who don't know what manga titles are worth reading, and it's not helping the field much. There are even some who have never heard of Onemanga. Can you believe that? Lol.

I still think that it's mostly because anime/mangas were relatively unknown in Europe and US that DB made such huge impact. Yes, action helped but we were so less in touch with other mangas that the influence of it was highly intensified. See nowadays, in a single day, you can see several awesome moments in few instances - you see an Ichigo unleashing its Bankai, then you move on to see Naruto turning into Kyuubi mode and another awesome moments in another manga ect....The impact is diminished compared to DBZ; though they are better because we are over-exposed. Impact is intensified when target is less; there are fewer chances to get diversion in views. In that way, I think it’s pretty impossible to re-iterate the influential feat that DB once done.
Ah yes, when we taste something for the first time it's going to stay in our taste buds even though the succeeding bites are much better. However, impossible? Nah, I don't think so. I don't want to use the OP argument though, it'll make me look like a tard, although if you don't mind I can use it if you wish.

Sure, the OP moments are great but I'll doubt it will stay for more than 10 years in people's mind like DB. Sure OP is more original but we must consider that there are so much more expostion towards other mangas nowadays that in the times of DBZ. Also, we don't know how many more awesome manga will be released in the next 10 years. The said flagship could change hands easily but the longevity won't be given for all. In fact, longevity and influence of DBZ is unique in my eyes.
Er, 13 years mean anything to you? Popular J-POP and K-POP bands reading and watching OP mean something? There is a reason why OP has people like Namie Amuro, Yaguchi Mari, DBSK are performing the openings unlike Naruto and Bleach who have Home Made Kazoku and Takacha. Don't believe me? Check out opening 5 of OP, that song made the top in the charts, and it was BOYSTYLE's debut song, and these aren't exactly your typical anime singers. I think there's a candidate for upending DB's throne now. Reruns on Saturdays doesn't really bode well for a franchise 10 years behind its prime, but when it's the only dubbed show done well it's bound to stick to people's minds.

Well, it's perhaps where our views and opinions differ - you consider that Japan is where it matters but for me, popularity and influence should be determined from a global and worldwide view while the real critics and sales ratings should come from where it's been originated (Japan). Both got their places but when I talk about popularity and influence attained, I’d like it to be in a global way. In this way, I think no manga can influence and gain same popularity as well as longevity in the world as DBZ did in current time. Sure, sales/stats may state other things but in the mind of people, DBZ etched something immortal that'll live while the other mangas might not get such longevity due to over-saturation of mangas.
We'll see in 10 more years then. :)
