Well jiraiya knows about the 4 tails, and he can summon gamaken and gamabunta also using swamp of the underworld and other powerful fire and earth elemental jutsu, so he is capable of fighting it but will lose.

But in this case he would probably be capable of getting into sage mode, which if he got he would be able to use enourmous amounts of powers such as Oodoma rasengan, Goemon and other sage arts, and his speed and strength are greatly enhanced also ma and pa would help out incredible.

So jiraiya would win over the 4 tails.

It already happened. Jiraiya sealed it back in to Naruto. And Jiraiya only received the injuries he did because he wasn't trying to harm Naruto, only seal the kyuubi again. If he were trying to kill Naruto, he would have.

I highly doubt there was a true fight. Jiraiya wasn't fighting Naruto. Naruto was fighting J-Man yes, but all Jiraiya was doing was putting the seal back on.
