hey brother, while this battle is tight, it's one of those "New" types of battles. THIS was written shit. Both sides knew at the very least one month in advance who they were battling and they memorize different things. my new "favorite" battler is Soul Khan, check out HIS battle vs E Ness. Soul Khan MURDERS him! BUT, it's all written--at least to a certain degree, which is about 90% of what they spit. after that, they may try to flip something the opponent said against themselves... but it's not easy and a good one is rare
yeah man, no doubt! people don't "freestyle" like this anymore. and, Eyedea is dead... R.I.P... but he was the master! there are others though, but from the way you are it makes me think that you know exactly what's up with freestyles/battles nowadays
man u might not be aware of this but all freestyle are preped in advance real freestylers rap 24 7 spit tons of stuff and repeat there best stuff in battle this isnt a free style but here these are sum of the guyz i grew up with there not mega famous but there on youtube
no bro, not ALL are prepared beforehand. that's a Nowadays thing. there are still some who spit for real, but today it's a dying art. i LOVE spitting flows off the top of my head, and many people actually say i'm good at it. it's just that... no one cares anymore, know what i mean? Rap/Hip-Hop has changed too much. i'm still a hip-hop purist so i believe in what REAL talent can do. so, "freestyle" aside, i loves tons of underground rappers like Tech, R.A. The Rugged Man, Rugged Intellect, Kool G Rap (yes, despite being a 20+ year veteran he's still underground), Vinnie Paz, Canibus... all that shit is dope. BUT, someone who can "freestyle" for real, is awesome.
i never denied that it's "always" been a mix of both, because for real, Big L's "freestyles" were written but were dope as f---. however, there's a diff between writting a "freestyle" and writing a "battle." when it comes to freestyling, it's just you and the beat and whatever the hell you come up with, but for battling, people prepare certain things before hand---about their opponents. these guys today have a chance to study their opponents before hand, which is now a luxury because it didn't use to help much because u'd see one rapper one day and battle him the next. now, dudes have MONTHS to prepare for one single person...
well, now ur splitting hairs. i mean, what "rap" means to you and what "rap" means to me may be 2 completely different things. but if ur talking about "the right" artists, who do you mean? If you say names like Jeezy or Kanye, i'll laugh you out of here. who do you mean? who do you think are the right guys to listen to?

Not necessarily, it's damn obvious (atleast to me) when someone is going off the top, and mixing it with actual verses. You just have to know the artist to tell when he's using writtens. There are still those who do straight freestyles. I know I've seen common freestyle in person while I was in college. The professor was holding cards with different words and switching between them at random, and he had to freestyle something related to the word on the spot. Shit was awesome.
