To our knowledge, something has had to incarcerate the current Hokage before a new one is to be assigned.
Example:
The Third died, and Tsunade was given the Hokage position.
Tsunade was determined to be in an indefinite coma, so Danzo/Kakashi were extended the Hokage role.
My question is:
What happened to the Third that caused the Village to assign Minato the Hokage position?
Because after Minato died, obviously the Third was in good enough shape to reclaim his former position, and for another 13 years for that matter.
If he was in such good a shape 13 years later, why was he succeeded?
I understand that he was getting into his later years, so that could have been the case. But, due to that case, if they named a fourth, rather than revert back to their Third, why didn't they just name a fifth when Minato died?
