Right on all accounts except one: this jutsu requires no handseals. And this is also a viable jutsu to use, as it actually reaches up to mid-range. Needing no handseals, and being a quick jutsu, this is actually useful, since it can be a good counter to some Doton jutsu.

Close enough. Things to keep in mind: this is a ranged attack, not a lightning punch. Using it like you just did is a waste of an attack. Furthermore, you'll need to condense the jutsu into a solid sphere to help concentrate it's power, not into a shapeless "glob."
