that's a bit too far ! --> Uchiha itachi : Once he's caught in the Kageshibari no jutsu it's a perfect situation for him to use Tsukuyomi or amaterasu (it's easier on a standing target + no need for him to make any movements

As smart as Shikamaru is, and he can well strategize against most...he can never beat quality ninja, ninja with actual power, more power than him. Which is why he got beat by Temari during the chunin exams. Yes he out-strategized her and had her caught in his shadow clone, because of the huge gap in their power, Shika could not follow-up and do anything after that and he was forced to give up cause he ran out of chakra
Then there's Tayuya who also beat his but. Yes he figured out her technique and strategized a way to beat her, given her greater power thans to the Curse Seal, Shikamaru didn't stand a chance of beating her; hence why Temari had to come in and save his behind.
All the great planning in the world doesn't mean a think if you don't have what you need to follow up. Most nerds can outsmart the biggest jocks in their school, but there's a reason why they get pounded by the dumber jocks. The jocks have more strength while the smarter nerds don't have the strength to make their strategy work

Yeah I speculate that too but what shikamaru really needs is a large pool of chakra like naruto or sasuke then he could bind his opponents stronger and for a longer period (he should pick up a biju after the war) he can only bind oponents who have around he same chakra levels as him or else they'll break free :flaw:xd

lol okay then he is strong but Shikamaru is lazy i really dont think he would want to be Hokage it would be to much work for him.
Shikamaru could not defeat all three Sanins together maybe one on one its a possbility but not definately all at once unless he had help from Sakura, Sasuke and Naruto since they where the three Student taken up by the three Sanin

OMG, well lets take a look, if i remember right Oro was immortal and he was able to use a earth jutsu against 3rd while his neck was being crushed, wtihout using any seals.
Tsunade can only die in battle if she losses her head when using her medical jutsu (Dont wuite remember if true)
Jiraiya would be at a dissadvantage here thought, but if he knew about his abilities and how intelligent he is i would say that Jiraiya would win, it also depends on location. Also if jiraiya enters SM, shika can't win..... Jiraiya would be too fast, and he has intelligence and Ma and Pa help him out.
I'm not going to flame anyone, but shikamaru is strong and quite skilled but i dont think he can beat the Sannin (Just yet)
