Wow.... just wow.... almost no people in favor of neji. Nejis rotation may be a massive release of chakra, but its a rotating mass of chakra. The bugs won't be able to feed off of it because the chakra itself is repelling them.
If shino didn't have chakra, then his bugs wouldn't respond to him. After all the trade off for an aburame is to give the bugs your body and chakra, and they will give you complete control over them.

The Byakugan does have a blindspot, Neji almost died during the chunin exams because of it and Neji even says there's one. Why would you say it doesn't? And Neji did not take on those cloud ninja by himself as a genin, yes he drew them away and got in a few hits but his uncle came and saved him when he was about to be killed by one of them. Stopping chakra flow doesn't kill you, assuming he can get close to Shino who has good evasive skills and is at least as smart as Neji maybe a little smarter. Also being a Jonin does not mean you're the best ninja in the world (Naruto and that old guy were genin kickin a**) so I wouldn't invest much of my argument in that either.
1. Show me where in the manga a Genin Neji takes on two Jounins
2. Byakugan does have a blindspot. Pay attention to the manga.
3. 128 Strikes doesn't exist in the manga.
4. It takes more than a gentle tap to kill someone. Even with the Jyuken

Could go either way, even with Shino's bugs, Neji can keep at bay with his mid-ranged air palm. Unless Shino knows where Neji's blind spot is, he can't really hide to make clones or use his insects to ambush him as Neji can pretty much see around and through most objects, not to mention one's chakra.
That being said, it'll be hard to catch him off guards. If the bugs do get on him full body blow to push them off. Yes Shino's bugs eat chakra but at a speed of such a technique where it's just one simple burst and it's gone, they can't really do much against that. A similar aspect could be said with rotation, if the jutsu could actually rotate the insects upon impact, deflecting them as they as soon as they touch him, before they can get a proper hold on the chakra to begin to eat it.
Remember these insects are living and they don't absorb chakra right off the bat, they devour it meaning they have to get a propor hold on it to begin to do so, even if they can do it rather rapidly. Neji's full body blow is a rapid pulse and if my theory about rotation is correct, they won't have time enough begin eating through the jutsu before they're deflected.
Now Neji's physical attributes exceed Shino's. He's faster then Shino and he has vastly superior taijutsu then Shino. Shino and Neji's intellect are more or less the same, but in different categories. Shino's strategies lay in surprise attacks, getting his Kikaichi to surprise you and latch onto you to begin eating your chakra, while Neji's intellect is pure combat genius, meaning he analyzes the situation and simply reacts accordingly. Shino's fighting style will be difficult against a hyuuga simply because the Byakugan is so versitile that it can detect the small insects at a near 360 degree vision and can tell the difference between a clone like Shino's where Shino will be a complex organism and the insects won't be and he can distinquish between one over the other.
I'm just defending Neji because it's mostly onesided with Shino (which isn't a surprise. I don't get how people consider him underrated

Wow!!! Neji is being vastly underestimated here its ridiculous...all Ninjutsu is Chakra based so are you guys implying that Shino can beat anyone who uses ninjutsu; that is absurd!!! I haven't seen anyone so far bring up the fact that Neji is a user of the Byukagan and Shino is going to have a hard time mobilizing a vast amount of bugs without them being detected. It's hard to say who would win in a 1v1 but the Byukagan and gentle fist definately gives Neji the edge imo. Saying Shino wins by a landslide is just ignorant....
People have said that. And I don't think many people are saying that Shino would win by a landslide. I think most people see them as equals and think Shino might have a little bit of an advantage. My mind changes about it all the time. I think if they had 10 battles with each other Shino would win some and Neji would. They're both so different allowing for advantages and weakness on both sides. Like Reborn says Shino's tactics are based on sneak and surprise and I agree he works behind the shadows a lot. Neji has to get close, he's faster than Shino but Shino's expertise would still make it difficult. Same thing is reversed though, Shino can't just defend, if he wants to win he has to attack Neji isn't just going to use up all his energy chasing after him, he knows better than that. Shino would have a hard time getting around rotation. I said Shino earlier, and later I felt Neji, right now I say toss a coin.

I was joking lol, but I agree, to me both are fine shinobi, pretty equal, I'm more towards Neji though.

Air Wall Palm focuses on one area, does it not? If so it won't do much against bugs that surround the whole area. Mountain Crushers is Anime, so I'mnotsure if that's allowed.
They've never been shown to take time in draining chakra. The bugs swarm their target and make it impossible to move. Insect Globe is designed to stop the victim from forming hand seals or escaping in any other way. Regardless of how much time it takes, the bugs will stop you from moving.
If anime counts then Shino said the bugs will drain you in less than a minute.
Faster, yes. Smarter is debatable. Neji was mostly a genius for his skills in learning his Clan's abilities.
Shino has his bugs to counter speedy opponents.
128 Palms is anime, so I'm not sure if it counts. Also, Shino doesn't need chakra to use his bugs. Those Palm stikes still require Neji to get close, so he'll have to deal with the bugs first.
So how does he stop the bugs? Once again, he needs to get close. He'll have to find a way to get to Shino.
Then by that logic Neji> Naruto and Sasuke.

We don't actually know what happens if an Aburame's chakra is blocked. We do know that they can use the bugs without the use of hand seals or chakra conversion. It's described that the insects use chakra in exchange for the host to use them in any way. But it doesn't explain anything else.
The insects focus on the surrounding area on a whole. If Air Palm hits one area that won't do much to help, because the insects can get Neji while he's destracted. Rotation would be best or any move that focuses around him.
If Shino uses Insect Sphere, it restrains (to stop them from using hand seals or escaping any other way) the enemy and start eating away at their chakra. Assuming Shino managed to catch Neji, of course.
I agree to a point. Neji can detect the bugs, but I'm having trouble imagining how he'll handle so many of them when his opponent is also a good strategist.
I like Shino, but the comments about Shino winning this easily surprised me. I came in here ready to defend Shino, because I expected people to make Neji the winner by a landslide (as people mostly do, because Neji is usually overrated in the Battledome). Shino actually is underrated at times.
I see Neji as overrated in the Battledome and Shino as under. Mostly'cause the former is a Jonin and a genius. Whereas the latter is underused by the author. Of course, people will do the opposite. =)To this I say damn...now do mine next
I'm so used to people forgetting Shino is a strategist who doesn't underistimate his opponent. Most times people will have him throw out his insects and hope for the best. xd

Honestly speaking I've seen very little shino underration on this fourm, same goes for Neji. The more underrated peoples are/were Choji, Tenten, and ino

Yet Neji is faster and can get within close range, has means to repell Shino's bugs before making contact, and also Byakugan severly injures Shino's chances of deceptive and sneak attacks. Long range>close range Whoever's superior range you are within you're at a disadvantage.
I hate it when people automatically say long range>short range.

Hey it's not my fault she's useless. Kishi made her that way...The only reason that I don't like Tenten is co she almost never hits anything. Im just thinking practically her completion ratio is less than desirable. I'm new to this forum, so I still have to learn how the characters are treated. Everywhere else I go I have to defend certain ones.
Shino was highly underrated in that Hinata vs Shino fight made about a week or so back.
Agreed. It'll also be difficult for Neji. Byakugan can help him see the bugs and he's faster, but he'll need a way to not get overwhelmed and end up getting tired.
