Aaaah~ A great piece of work! I love how the final book not only conjured feelings within me I had thought lost to oblivion, but also helped me realize a few things.. Albeit, I'm a bit depressed the story has to end, as many others will have to. I've come to understand, whilst experiencing the wondrous world Paolini wrote about, that a great book doesn't always have to end in the naïve way one would want it to, in order to be a great book. I think that what's important is how it is able to draw forth the readers feelings and absorb as well as involve us, not that it has a "happy ending", which is something I don't think exist, as it is merely an idea of us humans, a concept. Yet it still origins from reality and fictitious as the book is, I still felt bad when Eragon had to depart from the other in the end, ALMOST weeping, but gladly I didn't, because in its stead, I understood, which is far more important IMO.
Now for some epic moments in the book which I can't help but share out of their pure awesomeness!
Saphira's fight with Thorn at the churh in Urû'baen. That fight made me lol, several times! It's awesome how she seemed awkwardly calm about it all as wellxd
Eragon's epic self-naming; Eragon Shadeslayer, the vanquisher of snails!!xd I almost roared with laughter when I read that!!xd
Angela and her merits!xd I can't help but laugh out of pure amusement when I read the moments when she's in action!xd Always so logical and knowing~

Sure he followed some hints, but to be honest, I had forgotten them all, so to me it was a bit unexpected, and the part with the ship in the end, which he(Eragon) had an apparition of, surprised me the most. I thought there was to be an attack on themxd, but it ended in a maelstrom of emotions on my part.
I can't really say I have an opinion on how he decided to write his books, I just read them and enjoy whatever experiences he enables, nice ones as well as those that threatens tears.
I'm actually glad there are so many co-readers!

That word should probably be replaced with good. Its a good book but not great. A great book would have been not letting down all the readers who want to go and torch Chris Paolini's house for actually doing what he predicted would happen.

Also one of my favourite characters, so random and clever! A chapter or two about her journeys and past is something I'd definitely read!
Judging by what Solembum said, they've been to some outrageous places already~

@Loki.: Brom's and Morzan's story is also something worth reading I'd say! On that account, I'd also like to read something about Eragon's adventures to the east, as he trains riders, dragons and explores what lies beyond Alagaëisa.

Ofc, Retardopher Paolini apparently isn't normal... At least now he fears for his life (I'm damn sure he won't get alive out of Dubrovnik, Croatia if he ever comes in - not sure about your hometowns ). Also, the fact that prophecy came true, means that our lives are set in stone? Isn't that actually awfully depressing? The thing that you can't do a shit to change your destiny... Damn him to HELL!!!

@Next book - I would most gladly read fifth book where, after some time (idk. 200 yrs?), eragon goes back to normal world as he already trained few generations of riders (since he and Arya are elves they would be alive and kicking) to help riders deal with some crisis, there they hook up again and live happily ever after (and rule over elven race - I just love the idea cuz elves are so cool xd)

What I'm trying to say is that, he makes the ending somewhat realistic by doing what he does, people does not always end up together, just watch the anime movie "5 centimeters per second". Well, maybe you shouldn't watch it perhaps, you might get pissed offxdxd

I know it's realistic. But don't we all kinda read books in order to escape from reality? Whole world is kind of a let down since things we don't want to happen often happen a lot more than things we want to happen. That is why I want to read the book - sure, characters that we find close to us or simply like may die along the book. Some may turn out to be a lot different than we at first thought them to be. Same thing goes with events. However, when we read satisfying ending where main character ends up with a person we wanted him/her to end up with, when his best friend becomes king/queen and his/her dead father/mother a renowned national hero we get our buts off sofa after 5 hours of reading and put the book on the shelf with satisfied smile back on the shelf and stay positive whole day. Now, imagine how I felt after finishing "Inheritance"? I didn't feed the book to the fire since, luckily for the book, I read it on my mobile phone. If it were otherwise...

At least you were home. I was at work when I finished it. I was fuming. Co-workers looking at me crazy. Had to tell them the ending to the book I've been waiting 2 years for has disappointed me to all hell.

Most do, as do I read books to escape reality at times. Yes, this world is not very satisfying.
My reason for reading books like these though, are as simple as that I want to enjoy them, whatever feelings they provoke. So I basically don't read books and decide how I want them to be, I did before though. Now I read them and experience whatever the author lets me.
Dissatisfying endings sure are rare when comparing to its opposite, but I think that this kind of ending holds a certain significance. Consider this, these series have reached great popularity, don't you think the expectations on it having a good ending are somewhat greater than usual? I think it is so, maybe not for all, but as to compare, I didn't really care much for how a movie I watched recently ended, I just watched it. It was no great or well known movie, so to me it didn't matter very much, and I think the quality also affects you.
So, yes I understand how you felt, if only a little bit, when the book ended the way it did, but it isn't something I'd like to change.
I for one used to daydream a while back, usually in my mind I would imagine and recreate endings and situations, events etc. which I didn't like, I think many do.
But in the end it only serves to distort the endings to me, so I don't do it or wish for change or different happenings anymore.

So I didn't even try to do it, but simply accepted the fact that he screwed things up, vowed to kill him if he ever got in 100 km area of where I stand and went on to drown myself in "Ranger's Apprentice" and "Sword of Truth" series in order to wash away the anger that damn ending stirred inside me every time I thought of it...
