Alright then, we start at the very beginning.

What is "earth" to you?
Well Earth is one of the 5 basic elements. The Earth element takes the form of earth and mud based attacks. I think the main use of Earth is for deffense but it can be used as offense as well. Earth is strong against water and weak against lighting.

Wasn't quite looking for the chakra aspects of it yet, but, that works.

Doton is weak against Raiton due to the fact that Lightnings high amount of energy and vibrations basically "tear" through the earth; it, on a molecular level, causes the molecules to vibrate and fall apart, if they aren't out right ripped apart.

Doton bests Suiton due to the relation of the land and sea; it takes the earth to diverge a river.

Despite never being explicitly put into one category, Doton is assumed to be a Yin element nature, due to having more in common with Wind and Water than Fire and Lightning.

And yes, Doton is a highly defensive element when compared to the others, due to the myriad of things you can do in order to protect yourself; on that same note, that's why Doton is viable as an offensive element as well.

Doton, like Suiton, has a good balance of offensive and defensive uses.

*Sits down on the ground and tosses you a rock.*

Hold this stone in your hand, and meditate upon it. I want you to describe to me it's various qualities.

hmm...

*I sit down and take a meditation stance while holding the rock inbetween my palms. I concentrate on the rock and the rock only. I try to forget about all other things and start thinking upon the rock's qualities.*

Well the rock is hard, it seems unbreakable...

*Nods.*

Earth is a very stable element; it's rigidity is a key component in life, thus it's place as a part of Mokuton. It's this rigidity that makes Doton a good protector.

Now, thrust your hands into the soil, and examine it's qualities. It should reveal to you the qualities of earth that is not rigid.

My training isn't the copy/paste style. Before jutsu, when learning to access the chakra, I focus heavily on the philosophy behind an element, and the things that make it what it is; in this case, what it is that makes Earth, Earth.

When we get to jutsu, I'll explain the majority of the mechanics of the jutsu, in how it works, as well as giving you a few tips of how it's useful in battle. Then, I'll require you to make a detailed explanation of your performance of the jutsu, to ensure that you actually have knowledge of the jutsu, and aren't just someone who throws jutsu around without actually knowing how they work, or if the jutsu is even appropriate for the situation.

That's good. This is another reason why Earth is a part of Mokuton - it and Water together have life giving qualities.

But, if you'll notice, the soil is malleable; the earth can bend to take on different shapes; this is another aspect of how earth is useful for defense, and even offense, since you can mold the earth into various shapes.

Now, take a handful of soil, and the stone in hand, and begin circulating your chakra throughout your body.

We'll be using the stone and dirt to adapt the qualities into your chakra. But, for now, just start focusing your chakra, and I'll walk you through it.

Now, slowly, I want you to examine the qualities of each piece of earth, and I want you to manipulate your chakra to take on those attributes.

Make sure to take care and use extreme detail in describing your process, so I'll be able to gauge your progress as to how close you are to being able to access Doton chakra.

*I slowly but surely begin to examine the qualities of the earth. I concentrate my chakra into the rock and soil and back to me while concentating on the qualities. I focus on the life-giving properties, thinking how earth gives life to flowers, trees and plans, how wild animals use earth for shelter, how every single person and creature on this plannet uses the earth. I also concentrate on fruitfulness, thinking how earth gives us food, how without it we are doomed. I start thinking about the relationshp of the earth with other elements. Earth Water and Wind come together to create the basis of life, yet nothing is possible without the earth. I try to manipulate my chakra as hard as possible to take on the attributes. *

Very good, so far. You've made good progress on the secondary aspects of the nature.

Now, you'll need to make your chakra take on the attributes of sturdiness, from the rock, and the malleability, from the soil.

These two aspects are the two you'll mainly be working with when preforming Doton jutsu, and thus it is these properties that your chakra needs to mainly reflect.

*I concentrate my chakra into the soil and again examine its qualities. I spread the chakra into the soil and make it go in a search manner trying to "find" the qualities of the soil. I then try to make my chakra take on the attribute of malleability. I keep doing this for a while without breaking my concenration untill I think it's done. I then concentrate on the rock and release my chakra into it. I try to make my chakra take on the attribute of sturdiness from it.*

Alright. Now, after all of that, how does your chakra feel to you?

*As you focus your chakra into the paper, it crumbles into dust.*

Very nice. ^_^

So, with that, we can learn the first jutsu:

Rank: D
Type: Attack/Defence
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage Points: 20
Descripton: Creates small pillars of earth, small tools, and small shields of earth.

This jutsu is not known to need handseals.

One of the simplest, but most useful techniques you'll see in the RP; people love to use this jutsu to dodge techniques by creating a pillar underneath their feet. This is also the use you'll see it have most often, though it can be used to create pillars for attacking opponents; however, the effectiveness of that dwells upon your ability.

A good thing to remember is, though, that stronger jutsu will destroy the pillar if you're not careful. If I used the Antlion technique (something we'll learn later), you're pillar would break, and your defense wouldn't be good; this is due to my earth jutsu having a greater force than your pillar can withstand.

It's also very simple to preform: focusing your chakra into the ground, you'll manipulate the earth you saturated with your chakra to form the desired shape.

Give it a shot- though, be detailed as to what you're doing with your chakra, so that I can make sure you have a proper understanding of the jutsu.
