Chapter 11: Now what?
Sorry it took me so long to get this one out. Kind of trailed away from my usual amount of time between chapters, but so many good video games came out and I couldn't help it. Hope you enjoy and thank you for reading!
~With the Others~
“We finally made it!” Gabriel sighed as he took a seat on a rock, but missed and fell onto the ground instead. “I meant to do that.” Gabriel sighed tiredly.
Michael sat against a rock, panting, “Yes well we had to make it here in time for Vincent and Elizabeth.”
Gabriel was breathing heavily, “Yes and we all know that Vincent is fast as hell.”
Michael chuckled at Gabriel’s words, “He cares about her more than either of them may even know.”
Sophia pouted, “She doesn’t deserve such affection that Vincent showers her with.”
“If you had said something more to her, she would have killed you Sophia. Nobody-“ Michael jumped when he heard movements in the bushes. He quickly drew his blades, one in each hand, and stood in front of everyone in a defensive position.
Vincent came out, panting and holding his knees. He was so exhausted from running as fast as he had. He fell backwards onto his butt, gasping for breath. “Where’s Elizabeth?” Gabriel asked curiously.
Once Vincent was able to regulate his breathing he sighed, “Still at the mansion.”
“You left her!” Gabriel shouted in disbelief.
Vincent turned his head so nobody could see the sorrow that clouded his eyes. He hid his emerald orbs behind his long raven bangs as Gabriel was fuming in front of him. Michael could see this spiraling into a negative out come, so he broke the tension, “She’s safe Vincent, and she won’t be harmed.” He comforted.
Vincent clenched his fist as anger radiated through out his body. “Does it make it better!” He shouted out, making everyone look at him in surprise. The usually calm, quiet, man was being swallowed by rage. “I don’t give a damn that you think she will be safe Michael! She’s only safest in my arms!”
Michael stood there calmly, folding his arms over his chest, “If that’s true then why did you pierce her with your own sword. How could you let the most precious thing to you fall into enemy hands, knowing how much she would suffer?” He spoke so softly through the tensed air as the wind carried his words to Vincent’s ears.
Vincent gritted his teeth, trying to calm himself. He knew Michael was right, but Michael’s words irritated him more than he already was. He let go of trying to calm himself as he appeared in front of Michael and punched him in the face. The impact of the punch sent Michael flying back into a tree, a few yards away.
Gabriel blinked since his eyes hadn’t even seen him move. Vincent stood there in an eerie silence as his aura flared from anger, making the other two stay back and not interfere. Michael sat up, blood trailing down his lip as a huge bruise in the shape of a fist made itself present against his pale skin. Michael’s eyes trailed towards Vincent’s easily reading the guilt and anger in them. “Feel better?” Michael asked after he spat out some blood.
“Sitting around like this isn’t going to help us.” Vincent said in a soft tone as his body still trembled from anger.
“Charging in without a plan won’t help either. I know you’re angry and I know you would risk everything for her Vincent, but don’t be irrational. She will be fine, I promise you. Her father wouldn’t hurt her.”
“No but he would force her into that stupid marriage!” He fumed as the thoughts of the prince kissing Elizabeth filled his mind.
“It won’t happen tonight, the prince is too proud to do it without showing off his wealth. Besides Elizabeth will probably try to make time for us. You know as well as I do that she is a very charismatic person when the time calls for it.”
Vincent took a deep breath, letting Michael’s words wash away the rage and replacing it with his usual calm attitude. “You’re right.” Vincent said softly.
Michael smiled, “Although keep those angry thoughts in mind when you go and rescue her. You would be unstoppable, I’m surprised you didn’t break my jaw.” He said in surprise as he rubbed his throbbing cheek.
Vincent plopped down on the ground and pulled out the papers Elizabeth had stuffed into his shirt. Michael sat next to him, and began to read over his shoulder. “So then who will go to the kingdom of Eden Fjord?”
Michael sighed as pain traveled through his body. “I will.” He volunteered. “After taking a hit like that, my body hurts too much to get into another fight.”
Vincent glanced at Michael, “It didn’t hurt you that much.”
Michael smiled, “More so my head than anything else. So then what documents will I be taking to the king?”
Vincent handed him the documents. “Take them all.”
Michael gently took them from Vincent’s hand and skimmed through the wording. His eyes lingered and widen, “So then he is involved as well?”
Vincent glanced over at Michael, “Who?”
“There is only one person I know that actually gave…” he looked up from the papers and towards Gabriel’s direction, “his family the reputation it has.”
Vincent glanced at Gabriel, seeing him staring at the stars with Sophia. “Who?” He asked softly.
“I can’t say for certain, but if he is, just be careful.” Michael’s facial expression turned to a serious one, “If this sadistic ritual really was practiced, by…them, then you and Trevor both could be targets.”
Vincent’s eyes widen in curiosity he hadn’t read it and after both his and Elizabeth’s expression, he was sure that he didn’t want to know. “Trevor can take care of himself.”
“Even though you are angry with him, your love for him never stops?”
“He’s my brother, he annoys me, but I don’t hate him.”
“If you were to fight him, would you be able to kill him if need be?” Michael said softly as he packed away the documents.
“If need be I would. Elizabeth means more to me than he does.” Vincent answered without second thought.
“Yes, you two were always close weren’t you? I mean more so then anyone else would’ve seen.” Michael corrected himself.
Vincent sighed, as he looked up at the stars, his hair falling to the side of his face. “Elizabeth always trusted me with things.” He shook his head, knowing that no matter the tough appearance that Elizabeth put up, she was scared.
“We will get her back Vincent.” Michael said reassuringly.
“I know.” Vincent answered in a determined tone. “First thing in the morning you should start to head north to Eden Fjord, take those two with you.”
Gabriel over heard what Vincent said and turned to face them. “I want to help rescue her!”
“You will only be in the way.” Vincent glared back.
“I won’t, please just let me help.” Gabriel begged, wanting more than anything to help Elizabeth, as she had helped him.
Vincent studied Gabriel’s features, seeing the determination in them. “Fine but stay out of my way.” He glared at Sophia, making her shiver under his hateful gaze. “You will go with Michael.” She opened her mouth to say something but Vincent continued, “I don’t want to hear it.”
She closed her mouth and nodded her head, staring at her hands that were knotted together in her lap. Michael smiled, “Well then maybe we should all get some rest, since tomorrow is going to be a long day.”
“Good idea.” Gabriel yawned, making a pact for him to sleep on.
“Michael, switch swords with me.” Vincent said as he handed his claymore type sword to him. “I can’t use this if I want to save her.”
Michael nodded, “I understand.” They traded swords, “I will keep this safe for you.” He admired his beautiful craftsmanship. His eyes trailed down to the tip of the blade, Elizabeth’s crimson liquid still stained his blade. “Why is your sword still stained with her blood? Usually you clean the blade after every fight.” He responded softly as he went to get a cloth to wipe it off.
“As a reminder of how I betrayed her.” Vincent said as he placed the two swords down next to him.
“You will never let that go will you?” Michael asked curiously.
“No.” Vincent said softly as he turned his back to Michael and closed his eyes for some much needed rest.
~With Elizabeth~
“Put me down!” Elizabeth shouted as she flailed in Trevor’s arms. He had been carrying her for some time now. She was flipping out as she was tied up and her sight, taken from her by a dark cloth.
“Will do.” Trevor smiled as he tossed her into the air.
Elizabeth cried out, not knowing where she was going to land or on what. She felt something soft and silky break her fall as Trevor untied the blindfold. “Where am I?” Elizabeth hissed out as she kicked her legs, trying to unravel the bindings that held them together.
“I will just say this…” Trevor paused making Elizabeth glare hatefully at him.
“Quit toying with me!” She barked as she tried to move her hands, but brought pain to her shoulder.
“You shouldn’t do that.” Trevor warned as he untied her legs. “If you make a run for it, I will catch you.” He promised. “If you are a good girl by the time I reach the door, I will tell you where you are.” He smiled as he stood from the bed that Elizabeth had landed on and walked for the door.
Elizabeth knew she couldn’t take on Trevor, not in her current state, so she sat in the bed noticing that her hands were still tied together. “My hands.” Elizabeth said in a dumb founded manner.
“Someone else will untie them. Even in your current state, I myself am leery of you having use of your hands. You know with that impeccable aim of yours and such.” He teased as he put his hand on the golden doorknob and turned it, never turning his back to Elizabeth. “Well since you behaved yourself, you are in the prince’s castle. Though your exact location is something you don’t need to know. Wouldn’t want you to get out by some chance.” He said with an arrogant smirk on his face. “Sleep tight love.” He waved good-bye and closed the door tight, locking it from the outside.
Elizabeth growled irritably as she got out of bed. She turned to see moonlight flooding into a tall glass window and a woman standing in front of it. She hadn’t noticed her at first, but she admired the way the moonlight showered her and gave her a luminescent glow. Her long white blonde hair fell to her waist and the top of her hair looked silver from the moonlight. She was about Elizabeth’s height and once said woman was standing a distance behind her, she gave off a soft gasp.
Elizabeth’s chest ached from the reflection of the woman’s face in the glass. Her face was pale but colored with dark bruises, her eyes looked lifeless, and her body-looked frail. Elizabeth was almost afraid that the woman in front of her would collapse in front of her from malnutrition or exhaustion. “What happened to you?” Elizabeth asked cautiously not wanting to offend or startle the woman.
“I was taken from my home.” The woman said in a raspy voice as she turned and untied the bindings on Elizabeth’s wrists. “I was brought here to serve that arrogant prince.” She continued with disgust coloring her words.
“Yeah we all hate that bastard.” Elizabeth said in a thankful tone as she moved her arm. “Why did they abuse and starve you though? You must be exhausted, take a seat.” Elizabeth said in a carrying tone as she kicked a chair that was close to the window towards her. “Sit please.” Elizabeth pleaded.
“Thank you.” The frail woman said as she took a seat on the chair as her stomach let out a cry for hunger.
Elizabeth squatted down in front of her, “Why would they do this to you?” She asked as tears stung her eyes, threatening to escape.
“My family has a bad reputation I guess you could say.” She said softly. “However we are accused for something that we personally didn’t do. I was kidnapped from my family and now being forced to work here as a servant. One day they decided I wasn’t of use and just stopped feeding me and locked me up in here. It’s only been a few days, but I still feel as if I hadn’t eaten in weeks.” She whispered softly as hunger pains shot out into her stomach.
“A cruel form of torture.” Elizabeth said softly as the woman cringed from the pain she was in. Elizabeth remembered what she had read in the papers and also Gabriel’s whole situation as well, “Are you Anilla, Gabriel’s mom?” She asked curiously.
