Kurisu is an 18-year-old girl with long brown hair (red in the anime) and gray pupils. She prefers to let her hair hang loose.She has an unusual fashion statement, with her outfit composed of a fully-buttoned white long-sleeved polo shirt, a red tie, a khaki sweater and black shorts. Kurisu's sweater is worn so that the back portion dangles to her back and is only kept from falling by a pair of belt-like accessories on her arm. There is a white belt around her waist. She also wears black stockings, and a pair of black boots complete her outfit.

Unlike people of her age, Kurisu has shown a more mature attitude, usually calm and collected even when someone is acting tense in front of her. However, she can also show a much more timid side at times.

Makise Kurisu grew up with what she saw as a normal life, living with her single Mother and being forced to devote her life to her studies - she had an optimistic attitude to life and believed she could do anything. That is, until one day she woke up and her Mother was gone.No note, no good-bye, she had just disappeared.
Feeling like she had no-one, Makise fell into a deep depression; her Father had left at an early age and her Mother had abandoned her too, without explanation. This caused Makise to make a life-changing decision - suicide. After taking many pills from her Mother's medical ninja belongings, she had an OD and woke up in the Village's hospital - where the nurses there treated her immediately and gave
her up-lifting and convincing talks about having her whole life ahead of her and never giving up.
Ever since then, Makise has not only been devoting her life to her very important studies, but to finding her Mother and becoming a Ninja. Up until now her training has been extremely difficult, working under her Sensei who had never gone easy on her.
Not only is she a Ninja-in-training, she has become intrigued with psychological studies - and so understands people very well. This causes her to distance herself from most people and she can sometimes come off as extremely rude.
During her search for her Mother she has been interviewing many different suspects that could possibily have had something to do with her Mother's dissappearance, and believes she's becoming ever-closer to finding and questioning her Mother.
