Nah - he was after the nine-tails which was still inside naruto's mom. so he heard that she was having a kid, knew that that meant the seal was weak, and therefor attacked at that exact time.

All while threatning to kill Naruto? Seems to me that he wanted to alter Naruto's life & guide saskue, making Naruto loose his parents and feeling the same hate saskue has felt. However Naruto in this timeline still conquers hate.

he was just trying to get the fourth away from kushina.

he wanted an opening to take her because he was after the kyubi. it had nothing to do with a personal feeling towards naruto. he was just using him as a hostage to get his real goal, the kyubi.
