ok then. go back in time and send Sakura against Neji. or Sakura vs Pain. what do you got? the same results... just because she didn't show anything special in the series doesn't mean she is weaker than a female heroine. she is only a side character of course we can't see her skills.
about that fight. she would be dead if she wouldn't make antitodes before the fight or lady Chijo doesn't help her in the beginning. she wouldn't even get close to Sasori's first puppet...
her combet skill is only charging at the opponent and punch them as hard as she can. also about defending from that many puppets... a lot of other ninja could do that. she was trained to do this and get out from fights.
So?
No one is really saying that Sakura would have defeated Sasori alone. As a Sakura fan myself I knew that Sakura wouldn't have defeated Sasori without Chiyo and vice-versa, though Chiyo would have done better if she was alone as opposed to Sakura who wouldn't have done so good.
But the point is that their teamwork is what led them to victory.
Chiyo helped Sakura to smash the first puppet, by helping her avoid the poison needles.
When Chiyo's mother and father puppets were incapacitated, Sakura offered to help her, even though she was told to run by Chiyo, and Sakura proved beneficial as the Iron Sand would have no effect on human flesh and because she could smash the puppet when she got close (Sakura's usefulness in this battle was her strength, because while Chiyo could have smashed the puppets with her puppets, which she did later on, Sakura proved beneficial to act as a puppet and smash them on her accord.)
And yes her strategy is to get as close to the opponent as possible and hit them as hard as she can. But, is that any different than Naruto's strategy of get as close to the opponent and hit them with Rasengan?
Yes, a lot of other ninja could defend from puppets, but the fact of the matter is that no other ninja were around and this was the perfect chance to show off Sakura's progress and the teamwork of someone vastly experienced and someone not so experienced, but skilled in what she does nonetheless.
Also, Sakura saved Chiyo a couple of times during the battle as well, so it's not like Chiyo was doing all the work. She was doing most, but Sakura executed her part very well as evidenced by the outcome. (And yeah, I'm fully aware that Sasori let himself get killed by Chiyo)
