Chapter 6: Jail Break
As the guards made sure to block off every possible exit and surround them so they couldn’t escape, Elizabeth pressed her back against Vincent’s. “What do you wish to do now?” Vincent asked, expecting another fight.
Elizabeth glanced over at Gabriel and tossed a key high into the air, smacking Gabriel in the face since he wasn’t expecting it. “Ouch!” Gabriel shouted as the metal from the key nipped at his face and fell to the floor. Gabriel picked it up and noticed a number on a tag the key was hanging off of. He put it in his pocket, as the guards didn’t seem to care about a key, “What’s-“
Elizabeth cut him off, “Take it and be safe. Lock the door and I promise, I will come back for you.” She said giving Gabriel a soft smile. Then her eyes narrowed at the bartender, “Feed him and take care of him. If I find one scratch on that baby face of his, I will kill you.” She promised darkly, through narrowed eyes.
The bartender gulped not wanting to cross the woman, even if she was about to be arrested, he knew she would still keep her promise. “Of course.” He said nervously as he peeked around the bar.
“We will go willingly.” Elizabeth said noticing the guards sigh with relief. It was obvious that they knew the fight would have been more of a pain than what it was worth. “However, if you man handle me I will kill you all.” She said darkly.
Vincent chuckled at the thought, knowing with her rage it was more possible then they were aware of. “How unlike you to not put up a fight.” Vincent teased.
Elizabeth sighed, “I have other things on my mind Vincent.”
Vincent nodded, “Understood.” He said softly, picking up on her choice of words, knowing the hidden meaning behind it.
Vincent and Elizabeth were arrested and escorted out of the bar quietly as Gabriel watched them leave. The feeling of being alone welled up inside him again. Just when he thought he had made a new friend, someone he could travel with, was being arrested.
Once they disappeared, Gabriel turned to the bartender, “Where are they being taken?” He asked curiously.
“There’s a small holding cell near by.” He said softly. “Tell you what, Gabriel was it? You help me clean up this mess then I will make sure you are well fed. That woman tossed you a key, may I see it?” He asked sincerely. Gabriel placed the key on the wooden bar as he took a seat in a chair that wasn’t knocked over from the fight or covered in blood from the decapitating event.
“Do you know where this key is for?” Gabriel asked curiously.
“Yup, it’s as I thought. This key is for one of the rooms upstairs.”
“You have rooms upstairs? I thought this was a bar!” He said as amazement sparkled in his eyes. He truly had been secluded from civilization and it was apparent to the bartender.
“It’s common in small towns like this one. We have to put the drunks somewhere.” He shrugged. “Go up to the room and put your stuff down. I will get you some food and then your day of work will begin.” He said as he eyed the dead body on the ground and then looked away.
“Yes sir, thank you.” Gabriel bowed in respect and rushed up the stairs. He glanced down at the tag to see the number 2 written on it. He found the door and unlocked it; using the key that Elizabeth tossed at him and walked in just to see the room in a pretty neat condition. He closed the door and locked it behind him as he tossed his pack onto the nicely made bed.
He heard a clanging sound from the pack making contact with the bed and he just stared at it for a few minutes, letting the curiosity spread through his veins like a wild fire. He couldn’t help it; he rushed over to where the sound came from and pulled the comforter back just to see a sword lying gracefully on top of the white cotton sheets.
He gazed into the beautiful long sword’s blade, seeing his own reflection in it clear as day. His eyes trailed slowly up the long blade, as he came across the black handle that looked rather comfortable to grasp. He went to pick up the sword by the handle, but it was much to heavy for one hand, so he tried with both, just to lift it an inch off the bed. “Wow this thing is heavy!” He said as he laid it back down. “Where did she get this?” He wondered to himself, knowing the quality of the sword must have cost a small fortune.
He broke away from the enticing hold the blade had on him, and walked to see the bathroom where he cleaned up a bit just to go back downstairs. He was welcomed with a burger of some sort and broccoli with melted cheese on top, as a side dish. “What can I get you to drink?” The bartender asked, singing a new tune towards Gabriel as he took his seat.
“Water is fine.” Gabriel chocked out realizing how cotton mouthed he was.
“Of course.” The bartender said as he grabbed an intact cup and poured water into it. “Here you go.” He smiled as he placed it down in front of him.
“Thank you.” Gabriel said politely as he took his sword off from his back and placed it next to him, within arms reach if he needed it. He quickly ate so he could get started on cleaning up and rest after wards, having a long day so far.
Once he devoured his food, he swiftly grabbed the dead body and threw it out back, as the bartender had told him to put it with the other trash outside. He mopped up the floor a few times, scrubbing the blood that had stained the wood and swept up all the broken glass. The thugs started to awake and left quietly, knowing they had made enough of a scene and didn’t want to cause more problems.
A few hours later, Gabriel felt tired as his back ached from being bent over for a long period of time. “You did a good job. The place looks better than it had when you walked in.” The bartender complemented as the bar looked almost brand new. “Come eat.” He said as he placed a plate on the bar.
Gabriel sighed as his stomach let out a loud growl. He looked to the window to see the moonlight had fluttered onto the floor. The time had gone so fast that he hadn't even realized that it was nighttime. Gabriel washed his hands and arms vigorously before he took his usual spot to eat. After he was cleaned up, he sat down and gulped his water, satisfying his thirst. He ate his steak and potatoes quietly as the little bit of energy he had seemed to leave him. He shook his head, trying to rid himself of the drowsy feeling so he could finish his dinner.
Once he was done, he stood and bowed again, “Goodnight and thank you again.” Gabriel said as he walked up the stairs, sword in hand not waiting for a response from the bartender. He closed and locked the door behind him and washed up a bit. He walked tiredly over to the window and cracked it some, since he was sweating from all the work he had done. He took a moment to gaze at the moon and the blanket of stars that night had brought with it. “I wonder how Elizabeth is.” He said softly as he turned and went to bed.
Elizabeth sneezed, making the shackles cling from her sudden movement. “Bless you.” Vincent said softly, in his usual “I’m too cool for emotions” tone.
“Thank you.” Elizabeth said softly.
“So then why did you run away from home?” Vincent asked as his eyes softened a bit, sadness filling them.
“So then I take it that bastard didn’t tell you then.” She hissed out.
Vincent turned his head, to gaze into Elizabeth’s eyes just to be met with sadness clouding over them. “Tell me what?” He asked in a confused tone.
“He made a deal with that ass people call a prince. He was going to force me to marry him, I would rather die.” Elizabeth growled out.
“Well your father is-“
“Don’t.” Elizabeth warned.
“As you wish.” Vincent bowed his head. “Though I do have one question.” He didn’t wait for Elizabeth to answer as he continued, “Why didn’t you just tell the guards who you were? They would have let you go.” He tried to reason with the stubborn woman.
“Why so he can come down here himself and put me back on a leash?” She glared at Vincent, “So did he send you after me?”
Vincent’s eyes widen a bit and then he sighed, “Of course it would be obvious.”
“Yes sending my own body guard out to fetch me was his only option. I would have killed his guards easily.” She said in an empty tone.
“I didn’t do it because he commanded me to.” Vincent said softly. “You left without reason, I wanted to know why.”
“Does knowing the truth now help ease your mind or will you still deliver me to my father?” She asked coldly.
“I will eventually.” He said as he looked away from her, closing his eyes, not wanting to think about what would happen.
“At least you were honest.” She said softly. “If we escape this…hell then what will you do?”
Vincent glanced back at her and smiled softly, “I see so it’s about that time is it?”
“Yes, now answer my question. I need to know if I can trust you or if you’re going to hand me over to my father quickly. If you do, I will kill you this time Vincent.”
Vincent smirked as memories of their last real fight came to mind. “I wouldn’t dare get in your way princess.” He teased.
“Good then you follow me.” She ordered as she looked to see the guard on duty, sleeping.
“I didn’t think you’d give me much of a choice.” He sighed.
“Right now, untie my shirt.” Elizabeth commanded.
“How?” Vincent asked dumb founded.
“With your teeth moron!” She hissed quietly, keeping her eye on the guard. “I really have to pee. I’ll be damned if I will stay here like a caged animal.”
“Fine, don’t move.” He said as he leaned his head towards her breast. He grabbed the dark blue string from her shirt and yanked on it with his teeth. The shirt began to loosened as the strings that criss-crossed over her chest fell limply, revealing a good amount of her chest and showing a small portion of her black, lacy bra. Vincent felt his cheeks heat up, as he couldn’t help but stare at her exposed chest.
Elizabeth cleared her throat, “So I’m guessing you like what you see?” She teased him.
Vincent looked away quickly, knowing that if she had her hands free, she would have punched him in the face like the thug from earlier. “Just get on with it.” He said as he fought down some of the emotions that bubbled inside of him.
Elizabeth smiled as she stood and walked over to the bars. “Help, please, help!” She screamed out, forcing tears from her blue eyes, turning them a turquoise color.
The guard woke from his slumber, in a foul mood, until his eyes went straight towards Elizabeth’s exposed chest. He gave her a perverted smirk, “What’s the problem ma’am?” He asked as he slowly walked over to the cell, not taking his eyes off her chest.
“That man there is trying to rape me!” She cried harder.
Vincent’s eyes grew at being blamed for such crazy accusations. He didn’t want to play along with this plan so he sat on the bench and turned his face away, “I want nothing to do with you.” He said coldly.
Elizabeth let out a fake gasp, “Vincent, how could you say such things!”
“Well if he doesn’t want to, then I will.” The guard said excitedly as he grabbed his keys and went to unlock the cell.
Vincent rolled his eyes, trying to fight the anger down. Elizabeth quickly ran towards the back of the cell. “No mister, don’t hurt me!” She cried out, trying to make it as real as she could.
“I’ll be gentle.” The guard smiled seductively as he opened the gate and closed it behind him.
Elizabeth ran into a sprint and jumped onto the man’s shoulders, so she was kneeling on them, and snapped his neck easily with her thighs. She flipped off him as his body fell to the ground limply. “Such a good actor I am.” She laughed as she kicked off her shoe and picked up the key ring with her toes. She tossed them into the air and caught them with her teeth.
“That can’t be hygienic.” Vincent said as his eyebrow twitched and she slid her shoe back on. “So is this how you escape every time?” He asked as Elizabeth shot her head backwards so she was facing the roof and the keys flung behind her.
She caught them with ease and smiled, “It’s becoming a bad habit of mine.” She grinned as she fiddled with the keys to unlock her shackles.
“I guess you really can take care of yourself.” Vincent said in a soft manner, fighting down the sadness of not actually being needed.
“Don’t say such things Vincent. You know I use you as a shield.” She laughed and then a clinking sound could be heard as the shackles fell off from her wrist. “They make escaping too easy.” She said as she walked over and unlocked Vincent’s cuffs. “All done.” She smiled as she twirled the keys between her fingers.
Vincent stood up and reached for the strings on her shirt. “Don’t show them off so easily.” He glared as he tied it back up, covering her chest again.
“If I hadn’t we would still be sitting here.” She reminded as she allowed him to tie her shirt back up. “Let’s go I really have to pee.” She urged as she danced in place.
“Ok.” He said as they ran out of the cell and through the building, looking for a bathroom. Elizabeth ran past a door, but Vincent grabbed her arm. “Here.” He said as he tossed her inside and kept a look out so she could use the bathroom.
A sigh of relief caught Vincent’s ears as the words followed, “Any longer and I would have peed myself.” She laughed out nervously.
“Quiet down and hurry up.” Vincent scolded.
“Ok Mr. Grumpy pants.” Elizabeth teased.
A few moments later, she came out and they continued to sneak out of the building, without getting caught. They ran back towards the bar and Vincent noticed their path as the moonlight gave off light from above. “Don’t you think they will check the bar first?” Vincent sighed at the obvious answer to the question.
“I’m going back for my stuff and for Gabriel.” She said as they continued to use the shroud of darkness to make their way back to the bar, unseen.
“Why are you so interested in that boy?” He asked in an almost jealous tone, but he hid it well.
“Don’t you find it odd that a ten year old boy is out on his own, carrying a sword, and obviously has no clue about his surroundings?” She said softly as they continued to run.
“I do and also it’s obvious that whatever his situation is, it’s not a pleasant one. If you travel with that boy, his enemies will become ours.” He warned.

Gabriel’s problems are now ours, so let’s get to the bottom of that situation first.” She said as she stopped seeing the bar in sight.
“Second floor I take it?” Vincent asked from behind her, seeing the light on and the window cracked open.
“Yes that one.” She pointed out. “Give me a lift.” She ordered as they walked towards the wall above the window.
“Fine.” He said as he went to turn, but stopped when he felt Elizabeth’s thighs around his cheeks and her front pressed against the back of his head. “I thought you said a lift!”
“Quit complaining and walk closer to the wall. I need to get a hold of the window sill.” Vincent did as she asked and she reached for the wood that stuck out in front of her window, but she was slightly too short. “Stand on the tips of your toes.” She said softly.
“Just stand on my shoulders, I won’t drop you.” He sighed.
“Fine, but if you do Vincent, I will hurt you.” She threatened.
“Ok.” He said as she placed a hand on his head to help stable herself as she climbed to her feet. She wobbled a few times, but Vincent assisted her as he held onto her legs, not letting her fall back. “Can you reach it now?” He asked, as she was standing straight now.
“Yes I got it.” She said as she grabbed the wood sill and pulled herself up. She pressed herself against the glass as she held onto the bricks that framed the window. She leaned down a bit to grab the bottom of the window and slid it up. She climbed into the room and turned just to see Vincent pulling himself up onto the sill, “How did you-“
“It’s a secret.” He said rolling his eyes. “I’m just taller than you and can jump higher.” He teased as he climbed through the window as well and landed next to her.
She closed the window and went over to Gabriel’s side, “I see you.” She whispered playfully into Gabriel’s ear, making him sit up in a shocked manner.
“Elizabeth?” He asked in disbelief as sleep still clouded his sight.
