Ok thinking back, We all know Orochimaru had this crackpot idea that of mastering all the ninjutsu in the world? Something he planned on doing with the Sharingan. But as of Chapter 560, we've found out that Kabuto and Orochimaru had been doing research on Uchiha Madara himself. Thus we know for a fact that the two of them knew very well that Madara could use the Rinnengan. Which leads to my point.
Orochimaru not only wanted the Sharingan -a dojutsu that would let him copy every ninjutsu in the world- but also the Rinnengan which we all know is the level you obtain after EMS which Madara said himself, and with that Rinnengan he would be able to use all five elemental natures as well. How else can you achieve the goal he had then to become just like the one who created the idea of Ninjutsu itself The Sage of Six Paths. Of course, to balance out the two powers DNA from the first Hokage had already been obtained. Which is why we have Tenzo because he wasn't try to infuse those people with the DNA intentionally, he was trying to find a success rate so that when he implanted the DNA into himself, he wouldn't come out more harmed then anything. [much like how Danzo's arm broke off after he tried to access the first hokage's power against Sasuke] which the success rate was minimal as the only one who survived the procedure was Tenzo. Then Orochimaru's body fell into decay, which is why he was trying to hurry and transfer to Sasuke body. but it didnt work .
