Hmm okay.
Sand is a naturally occurring grain-like material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles. In the anime/manga, Gaara was seen to even make his own sand from selecting the hardest minerals from the ground and crushing the soil/dirt to make more sand. Sand is a very versatile material/tool that is used by Gaara and in general, members of Sunagakure (Iron sand, gold dust, etc) for many many purposes. You can use it much like earth techs but with much more speed and versatility IMO, you can use it to cover yourself as a type of armour or disguise or just to plainly manipulate it to form objects, tidal waves, tornados, etc.
The weaknesses of sand include oil and water..by wetting or mixing the sand with oil, the sand can not bind together as strongly as it normally does thus rendering the user unable to manipulate it. The same goes for mixing heavier elements into it like Iron Sand and Gold Dust (which was shown in the manga) - because the sand particles can not bind/stick together and the user can't manipulate it i.e. the sand will just fall apart. So yeah.
Wow that's a lot, and to be honest, I don't think many members of Sungakure use those elements. Only some like Gaara's dad and the Third kazekage, apart from that, I can't remember the others from Sunagakure if there are anymore.
From what I seen in Toku's sand trainings, he mentions that sand is weak to fire when sand is loosely spread out as it will be burned and eventually melt/crumble to nothing.
Sand is weak to lightning when it's dense and compacted as the lightning's piercing ability would just go through the sand, breaking it apart. Though, sand isn't weak to fire when used in this manner.

Firstly, this technique is the most basic sand technique and is able of creating sand waves or small shields. I want you to first create small shields after my clone launches a total of ten kunais. After that, I want you to take him out by sending small waves of sand at him.

*As I see your clone throw several kunais at me, I immediately react by concentrating chakra into the sand around me which I use to manipulate the sand's shape and thus form it into a small wave that I then proceed to send at the barrage of kunais successfully defending myself from the kunais. Immediately after this, I then do the same and send more small waves of sand at your clone.
Perfect! That covers D-ranks, on to C-ranks!

Okay, now I want you to focus on your own image and then manipulate your sand to mold two exact replica of yourself. Even though they look like you, they can be easily distinguished due to their colour. Got it?

Hmm, alright.
*I begin to concentrate chakra into the sand around and I slowly use that chakra to begin to manipulate the sand's shape. I mould the sand upwards to form to columns of sand - allowing both columns of sand to stand upright and slowly using precise chakra control and shape manipulation, I mould them into two people, that are exact replicas of myself.
I make a side kick to your first clone to his right side, at his stomach. He falls back to the ground and lays on the floor as sand. I then make a punch at the second clone in the stomach, leaving a hole but he doesn't fall to the ground like the first one.
*drops a kunai on the sand that your first clone was made from*
Okay, I want you to reform that first clone using that same exact sand and cover-up the hole in your second clone using new sand.

*After you hit my sand clones, I continue to concentrate chakra into the sand and proceed to reform the first clone to his normal state while I simply channel chakra into the other sand clone and filling up his stomach with more sand getting rid of the hole that you made.
Great, remember that you are able of hiding weapons, and other material or substances within sand clones since they aren't really alive but follow your order, it doesn't hurt them to have a kunai stuck into their body.
*pulls out a kunai of your first clone*
A trick I thought off while thinking about your training is hiding a dozen paper bombs within your sand clones and then making them explode near your enemies :3
Okay, on to the next technique. I want you to gather your sand beneath me and focus to form a stream of sand under me. Practice it by formin a stream of sand that drags me all the way to long-range and back here. Make sure you drown me in the stream by making it bigger than me.

*I start off by concentrating chakra into the sand around us and begin to us the chakra to manipulate the sand in form a stream i.e. the sand starts to move. I manipulate the sand beneath and near you to begin to move and form a stream of sand moving backwards. It slowly pushes you back and I continue to move more sand into the stream, making the stream bigger and bigger pushing/carrying you back and eventually drowning you in a huge amount of sand.
I appear somewhere on the field as you have lost vision of me due to the stream of sand. You don't see me but a voice echoes around you.
Okay, for your next technique, I want you to release your special sensory sand that your character possesses throughout the terrain. With this, you will be able to locate the positions of me and my shadow clone. Now try to find both of us...

*I once again begin to release sand into the surroundings around me, but this time, this sand is highly infused with my chakra so much so that it alerts me of nearby disturbances in the area allowing me to locate the presence of any enemy targets nearby. By using my sand, I am alerted to two disturbances far off in the distance, and I interpret this as two people..you and your clone. Although I dont know which one is the clone and which is the real you.
One question, does this sand detect people by just the movement of the sand or does it also sense chakra like chakra sensing rain?

That was good, and to your question the sand senses the pressure of someone walking across it hence it still sensed Muu when he went invisible in sight and chakra. It doesn't sense others chakra like the rain.
Now moving on, unless you got any questions...
This jutsu is self explanatory, basically use the sand around you (if there is, making sand from the ground takes longer) use the sand in your gourd. Then shape the sand to encompass you in a cocoon shape and make it dense enough to protect you...

Sorry for the late reply..been busy with RL.
*I start off again by concentrating chakra into the sand around me and using the chakra to manipulate the sand's shape and form in such a way so as to make the sand rise up from the ground around to form a sphere or cocoon shape around me. I continue to concentrate chakra though the sand to extend the cocoon of sand upwards eventually being able to cover myself completely from all possible angles by the cocoon of sand.

Alright with this release your chakra underneath your opponent, then with your chakra make the ground into loose dirt/sand. That will in turn cause the opponent sink in deep and from all the pressure the opponent will be immobilized.
