Well why wouldn't it be easier for everyone if they posted their theories in a thread filled with those theories? (i.e. all tobi theories in a single thread)

What I think about this suggestion:

Overall, you did well. Very well written, and thoughts came across quickly but neatly. I say that you did a good job.​

What should be added:

In my opinion, you should emphasize the difference between a "New" and "Regular/Experienced" Member. Would it be based on rank? (Not that this is a good idea with Game Forum Spammers getting to Kage in a matter of days.) Would it be based on the amount of time they have been on the site? (Also not very good, as newer members very often go inactive then come back. I know from my personal experience of going inactive for 2 months when in the hospital.) Would it be based on the amount of time that they have spent on the actual site? (Also not a very good indicator, due to the fact that anyone could be online 24/7 if they wanted to, just by leaving their computer on day and night.) In my opinion, it should probably be a combination of the three, say Jonin and above, 3 months since join date, and at least xxx days spent on the actual site. (Yes, I have no clue what number to replace the "xxx" with.) Just saying, as this may be disputed if this was to be an official addition to the rules as-is. Otherwise, good job.​

Where were rules like this when I had 25 replies to a post calling me any and every insult in the world for merely saying "yes everything in the manga seems to indicate Tobi is Madara, and logically I can't find any good argument against it. But my gut tells me he's not Madara"

Now when people who were insulted and harassed can honestly throw it back in the faces of those who hounded them. A rule is made to stop the much deserved retribution?

I understand, nobody wants spam. I get that aspect of it, but perhaps there wouldn't be so much spam if there hadn't been so much malice directed towards anyone who didn't agree with Tobi=Madara.

It takes two to tango, and no I'm not saying to give spammers a pass. I just find it a bit hypocritical is all.

Having taken a bit more time to read the thread further here are some more of my thoughts.

Let's not make this a nazi camp...zero tolerance camp?Really?

There are already plenty of rules, and you can avoid threads you dislike ,or you don't have any interest in by simply not clicking on them.The report button is also already invented,so you can use it if you see a thread violating some of site's rules(duplicates,spam,etc).You should be allowed to breathe and make mistakes without you getting the stick,and it is unfortunate that the mods work extra hard when big things happen,but this is a big forum and the reality is when something exciting occurs people tend to wanna bounce off their ideas/theories, which then again makes this site fun/interesting.

Besides, just because you deal with the same topic doesn't mean the content is always the same, and by merging the threads together you actually make the discussions very narrow/limited,because not a lot of people are willing to read through 300 pages of anything,so naturally people's thoughts get lost in the sea(some of them brilliant) without them getting any recognition,or the chance to further develop them.

I bet some of the folks raving about this idea will change their tune when the change gets implemented,and they get a taste of it themselves.

Btw, this is not a critique to the OP but the idea itself.I get annoyed by flame,arrogance and spam,as well, but the report button is there.

I don't like your analogy, but I agree with your sentiment.

The biggest point I read was that the newer members join when something really epic happens. They are more than likely not gonna read the rules, find the right sections to post in, or even look through the other thread before posting their ideas on the matter. Its usually not that bad but when something epic happens such as Itachi sealing Nagato or Madara being revealed, ur gonna notice a skyrocket increase in the naruto discussion. I think a tutorial is in order. That seems good. The registered user would get a samll tutorial talking about the rules and how to navigate around the website. This way, the only members who deserve to get banned are the ones who payed no mind to the tutorial.

Well... Very well written, but I'm going to disagree. To mirror Siyo's sentiment, without the dramatic analogy. The different threads, even when on the same topic, help inspire conversation. Case and point, the conversation in this thread. Merging all the threads that are similar theories into a single thread would actually diminish the work that some put into them. A well written, albeit nearly the size of a novel, theory about how Naruto is Tsunade's Grandson, complete with proof manga panels and logical arguments, would be lumped in with posts that were perhaps 10 words long, if that. Chances are the well written theory will be skipped over and the ones with no thought behind them, would become the ones being discussed.

The same would go for any theory treated in such a manner. Yes three people may post three threads about how Itachi is half senju because his mother cheated on sasuke's father. However those three people may come at the theory in three completely different ways. Some of us enjoy the journey (how the author came to, and supports, their theory) more than the destination.

As I said before I'm not fond of spam either, but I am fond of healthy competition, and survival of the fittest, at least in an intellectual discussion.... as intellectual as a discussion about a manga/comic book/cartoon/anime can be anyway.

The fact of the matter is, the "Who is Tobi/Who is in the sixth coffin" threads were banned a long while back. Most people were probably flaming because the threads were banned and not because they disagreed with the theories.

Whether all the threads are lumped together, or spewed out all across the message boards they will still be extremely difficult to manage. Take into consideration the Manga release. Over 300 "I told you so" threads were created in less than twenty four hours. That's not including new Tobi theory threads, and threads about what Madara is going to do now that he is an Edo Tensei. There were countless duplicate threads exploding incessantly across the boards.

Were you able to check every single thread? Were you bound to miss the really good ones? Were the really good ones bound to get overlooked? I believe the answer to that is yes, more so than if they were compiled into a single thread.

Finally, it's against the rules to post multiple threads on a single topic. It doesn't matter if the theories are different, it's still against the rules. So far, the only real opposition to this is the severity of the punishments.

The fact of the matter is, things get out of hand very fast, and can stay out of hand for a while. That's why something has to be done to maintain control or else we just have chaos boards and not discussion boards.

The idea may be strict, but I think it will make the site better. Seeing the same thread over and over again, definitely grows some hatred for the user making it, but it also spreads to the site itself. (Which is definitely not good)

Combining all of them into a single thread, gives undeserved credibility to a poorly written and barely thought out theory, while diminishing a tirelessly researched, Incredibly well written (clear, concise, properly spelled, ect), and intelligent theory. Just because a single individual, does not wish to see multiple threads with different theories that reach the same destination, doesn't mean that the same is true for everyone.

Finally, it's against the rules to post multiple threads on a single topic. It doesn't matter if the theories are different, it's still against the rules. So far, the only real opposition to this is the severity of the punishments.

That rule is more about comfort than structure. The bandwidth these threads take up is minute, compared to the bandwidth, just the manga takes. Your avatar requires more memory than your post. Text is simple, basic, it's what computers were built to do before they even had Hard Drives.

Like I said before. I understand wanting to cut down on the spam, I do understand it. I don't agree with it however. Not at the cost of sacrificing quality discussion, by lumping it in with idiotic, redundant, flaming, spam happy, threads just because they happen to be similar theories or discussions.

Give quality threads a chance to thrive instead of cutting them down at the knees before they are even created.

Face it, you will always have spam, there's always going to be somebody genuinely excited about a new chapter that makes a thread and starts talking about something that was already discussed. Well they're knew, you didn't meet your current (boy/girl)friend and instantly know every discussion they ever had did you? Forget the search feature, 95% of internet users won't even think to use it. Of the 5% that do, 90% of them don't find what they are looking for.

In the end, that's what it really comes down to. Everyone says they want nice and neat. But the message boards that are nice and neat, are also stagnant and inactive.

Lastnight(Not 100% accurate), 4 new members in Konnichi Wa section... 4 New Tobi Threads afterwards.
The amount of traffic has died out a little bit, but I don't see this being the end of it.
The amount of new threads all have the same Idea, just a different twist to the result of it.
Too many of the same thing isn't good for the Internet.

I still stand by my idea of 3 months before being able to post a new thread.
I also think that there is room for order since there is so many sections.

I still say:

Link the forum rule about repetitve threads posts/ flames everything linked with registration process. That means when a person registers he has to go through the pages with detailed forum rules- whether he reads it or not- he can't claim the innocenses of it afterwards.

Rules as they are now are easy to miss at present- for someone who is not familiar with the forum or its format..

A waiting period of three months is too much before making threads. Besides a lot of pointless threads are posted by older membrs as well. How about charging kumi for making new threads- maybe 1-2 kumis? or something?

Many members make new threads just to secure more reps and kumis. If instead of gaining a faster kumi they lose one or two kumi for making a second thread within a short period some threads will be cut down.

That's annoying and most should be considered as spam. Problem is none wants to report them or negative rep them for the fear of retaliation /lack of mods taking action/ those members ganging up on him as they have mob mentality.

Again, Have you ever been to DL's Supa's thread or the likes? threads which remain up are the ones which have no chance of resoviliving anything. There are many members who will just not be satisfied if you simply disagree. They want you to agree with their POV or must accept their opinion/theory to as plausible in the least before you can leave their thread without being insulted.

To sumarize: Ask yourself which you would rather have, good quality discussions among the spam of redundant threads "diamonds in the rough" so to speak. Or would you prefer to have no quality discussions because any and every thread would be bogged down with spam making any attempt to track any interesting conversation, absolutely infuriating and nearly impossible?

In the end, that's what it really comes down to. Everyone says they want nice and neat. But the message boards that are nice and neat, are also stagnant and inactive.
