The title of Hokage and the future of the Shinobi World rested on the shoulders of Hashirama/Madara. Although he faced Kyubi, he never faced the EMS Madara, which up until this point is the strongest form of Tobi.
That was mainly because of FTG, which as I said is one of the most haxx0rd jutsu ever. Hashirama though is the heart of Konoha and Naruto (Sasuke) have surpassed them including Minato.
We've barely seen anything from Minato aside from Rasengan and FTG, He was the fastest shinobi in History, and also although Hashirama defeated Madara in his prime, Minato being able to out-pace Madara in speed, and also Rasengan him and after that injure him with a Kunia and at the same time remove his control over kyuubi is just as impressive
He was admired and feared all over the ninja world, he was nicknamed the yellow flash, became hokage, said to be unsurpassable by the 4th Raikage, had a flee on sight order issued for him, and his hype is undeserved? I agree that some go overboard, but he deserves the hype he gets.

Minato could've survived because if you reread that chapter, he choose to die, he choose death because Kushina was dying anyway, so he didn't want to be alone and take care of Naruto alone, he decided to save his village, and leave a massive power house for Naruto to become stronger and stronger, and also he had to choose duty over family
Read my post on the other page. Minato chose to die. He made madara flee and he could of survived but he wanted Kushina to be able to see Naruto one more time so he chose to use the repear death seal jutsu.That's exactly my point.
His hype comes from a) being the father of the main character and b) preventing Tobi's plans in destroying Konoha.

He had no way to defeat Kyubi except the Shinigami; He would have stayed alive if he could have, but he had no other choice.
He Didn't have to seal the Kyuubi, he could've just directly sealed it into Naruto, but because Naruto's body was small that that moment, he had to seal half of it though he could've sealed it back into Kushina, but he chose not to
