I have a theory about Noah. I've been re-reading the Manga all over again, and I'm finally reaching the last arc. We've been especulating about Noah's purpose, and I think I've found out.
This is set on Jinbei's flashback, telling us the story of Queen Otohime and Tiger. Otohime, as we all know, is trying to unite the Fishpeople and Merkfolk with the Humans. 200 years ago from that time-line, the Kings finnaly made the Ryuuguu Kingdom official, and this year they gainined a spot in the World Reverie. Otohime wishes to confront the remaining Kings and tell them of their intentions to migrate to the surface.
And from that idea, King Neptune mentioned that their ancestors have tried that before, and failed, hundreds of years ago, and we were showed a picture of Noah, the ark. Now, could it be that they built Noah to migrate to the surface? If that's so, what happened? I'm inclined to say that there were two perspectives at that time. Those who wanted to unite with the humans, and those who didn't. Civil war broke out, and the Ark was forgotten, and locked away on the place now know as the Fishman District.
Yet something isn't quite right. Because in Fishman Island, there is a mysterious rock. Yes, Fishman Island possesses a Phoneglyph, which immediatelly ties them. Which is to say that the ancient Fishpeople and Merkfolk were part of the ancient civilization that disappeared in the Void century. When war broke out, between the lost civilaztion and the future World Government, they had no other choice but to flee to bottom of the ocean. I believe the ancient civilization was composed of not only humans, but all sorts of species, and it was prejucide, maybe, or probably, mixed with some even bigger problems, that create that big war that ultimately lead to their demise. Because of that, all the other especies were banished to the deeps of the world.
Neptune spoke of the Ark as waiting for "The Day that Most Come"
Which I personally take as the day where the world will once again ackowledge them, and they'll get to live once again above the surface of the earth. But I'd have expected that the Phonglyph would reveal that story. Instead, the phoneglyph is an apology letter.
It may be that the ancient fishmen fled from the battle zone, deserted the battle and hid themselves on the ocean. It would fit with the later hate and descrimination that sank in the human's hearts, yet I something else came to my mind. And that is the story of the "Legendary Mermaid".
Every century, a Mermaid would be born that could share her feelings with even the mighty Sea Kings. Van Der Decken, the original one, set to the seas to capture such legendary mermaid. But there's something else about that story. Otohime said that along with the Legendary mermaid, a man would come, and guide her. What if that prophecy is linked with the apology letter on the phoneglyph, and also with Noah and the "Day that Most Come". What if, the fishpeople were not part of the civilization, but were instead allies, linked between the love of the "Joy Boy", a member of the ancient civilization, and the original "Legendary Mermaid"? Joy Boy would be unable to come and guide that mermaid, but war broke out. Maybe she died, maybe she was simply lost.
The fishman-kind had to flee to the ocean floor, and with them they brought the Phoneglyph, which was an apology from the original Guide, that failed to the mermaid. So the fishpeople hid themselves from the world, waiting for another "legendary mermaid" and her guide, on "the day that most come", where together they would once again free the fishpeople and merkfolk, and have them live under the sun, above the surface.
It sounds confusing, yet it's a nice story, no?
