Hitler inadvertently helped about 40-50 percent of the world's population achieve independence. Now before you scream WTF! hear me out. I say inadvertently, that means he did'nt do it on purpose. I'm not saying his regime did not cause genocide etc , no it did. But the truth is, had there not been a world war 2(and world war 1 as well) Europe would have retained its grip on world affairs , i.e colonialism. In all honesty, the event that caused the British, French and the Dutch empires to relinquish their colonies was because world war 2 had left their economies crippled and they could no longer afford to maintain the imperialist ways of their past.
Trouble is, history is always written by the victors so it is possible for impartiality to be lost. The people who bash him the most are the Americans, which is surprising since they were allies of Hitler till just before the outbreak of the world war and they had the least casualties amongst all other nations. Russia(former USSR) has the most moral right to condemn him as they lost some 25 million people in that war and despite what the media says they did 90 percent of the fighting in Europe and were probably the main reason for the 3rd Reich's early demise. Attacking the Soviets was Hitler's biggest mistake, one which cost him his empire.

The greater 'living space' he thought the Germans needed was part of the reason he would later be demonized by generations, as this would naturally involve conquering lands belonging to other nations. His motivation was probably the fact that all other industrialized nations of Europe had manoeuvring space in the world and favorable trade with their colonies or as in the case with the USSR and USA due to their massive land masses they had all the living space they would need. But the monopoly that the empires of Europe exerted on countries wishing to trade with their colonies was a huge cause of Hitler's actions. For example, if someone from Germany wished to buy or sell something to India, he would have to negotiate with the British, not the Indians. International free trade agreements were therefore set up after the conquest of Germany by the allies. These platforms and others like the UN, the World Bank and the IMF did not exist prior to WW2.
