Plus he doesn't need the kunai to use FTG. He could put a seal on Kisame and then it is over for Kisame no matter what.

Oh, I know very well that Minato is being overrated as well, and its quite often. Still, many seems to believe that Kisame was top-tier Akatsuki. Yes, his skills were very efective against Jinjuuriki, but overall he was mid-tier Akatsuki, along with Sasori, Deidara and Kakuzu. He was kage-level, but he wasnt shinobi of Itachis or Minatos caliber.

What Kisame had? Huge chakra, skill at using Suiton techniques, limited absorption abilities. His speed was decent at best. Its not even close to put him on the same tier as Pain, Itachi or Minato. Kisame would lose badly against Deidara, not to mention about those guys.
