It had been almost two weeks since his entire life had been broken, and then reformed again. Rikoto had been sleeping, the thin blanket wrapped around him. When he heard a voice say "Hey you, get up." But he thought it was just a part of the dream. Until he felt something nudge his back, and he shot up, and saw someone standing over him. With his eyes not registering who it was, he got up and pushed himself back over the wall. It was only until he saw Konan behind the man he calmed down. He remembered he had seen him talking to Konan and the red headed man quite a bit. And so with relaxing, he became curious.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"I am Yahiko, and I am the leader of this group" he said as he stared down at him.
"Oh, ok, what do you want?" asked Rikoto
"We are short of members lately, and even though Konan argues against me, I have final say. I want for you to become a ninja and join our group. You have the toughness, because of what you have been through, now we need to train you for you to become strong and powerful in ninjutsu."
"So...What are my options, get trained or.." he started asking, but Yahiko held his hand and cut him off.
"As I see it, you have no options, you either accept the training, and join us, or you are thrown to the wolves, with no support, back into a country that spares you no mercy" he said with conviction.
"I'll think about it" he replied solemnly. So for three more days he thought long and hard over what his options were. And he finally decided that Yahiko was right. He had no options, he couldn't survive out there. He would join him, and help bring Amegakure back to the nation it was before the war! After he told Yahiko of his decision, they quickly wanted to start his training.
They walked, almost as a unit. Yahiko with a feeling that they would gain a new and loyal member. Konan, feeling apprehensive and wondering if they had made the right choice to train him. And Rikoto, happy, because he would help his country, and honor his sister.
They were deep in the woods before Yahiko stopped.
"So the first thing we need to know is how much training you have?" he asked as he turned back at Rikoto.
"I have some jutsu, but nothing offensive, just basic stuff, like substitution jutsu, and clones."
"Good" said both Konan and Yahiko.
"Why is that so good?" he implored. "I know next to nothing, I don't even know an element."
"But you have to know most people come in here and are trained from scratch and we won't have to work as hard with you." replied Yahiko.
The training was hard, and after a couple days, they had mastered the basics, and were ready to move onto to offensive abilities. They tested him in some common elements, and quickly found he had a natural affinity with wind. And was stronger than Yahiko with some of the simpler wind jutsu that he knew. And when his training finished, after many weeks. He was proficient in wind, and knew some basic fire jutsu. Then tradegy struck like lightning, and no one expected it at all.
Konan came rushing in, tears streaming down her face, Yahiko right behind her, carrying a boy no older than himself, blood streaming from his body. The silence was deafening. All that you could hear was the steady drip of blood. Then Yahiko whispered something to the boy, and gently lowered him down onto the ground. Rikoto got up and asked who he was, trying to avoid looking at the body. It reminded him of his sister.
"A friend" Yahiko replied sadly while Konan kept sobbing on the ground.
"What happened?" asked Rikoto.
"We were ambushed..." Konan whispered. "He never had a chance...There was exploding tags mixed with rogue ninja everywhere. It was pure chaos. One minute we were returning from our mission, and the next he was on the ground, blood everywhere, ninja's were yelling and screaming, Yahiko got hit by a kunai in the arm."
"It's nothing" he said. "Just a scratch." And when other ninja came from the other rooms, someone had a blanket, and they draped it over the young boys body. But the smell of death and sadness permeated the air. No one said anything, what was there to say? They had lost a member, a friend, and for all the work that they were doing, it was 1 step forward, 2 steps back. It seemed hopeless. Konan wasn't the same after that. She seemed much less carefree and more like Yahiko, determined to prevent more tragedy from occurring. The organization had hard days ahead of them.
Bit of a sad and slightly morbid chapter, both happy and sad days await our young Akatsuki group
