You shouldn't talk to others like that when you don't even pay attention yourself. Everyone knows Danzo is not the 6th Hokage. He was temporarily but was then denounced as a hokage so it did not count and THAT'S why his face was not up on the cliff in Konoha.
Even his last words were "Hiruzen… it looks like it's my turn next… but I… never did become Hokage… no matter how far I went I could never catch up with you… you are the leaves bathing in the sun. I…. am the roots that grow in the dark."
The Hokage's summit was a gathering of the Kages. So he must of been Hokage to attend.
And when he says " never did become Hokage ", it's more likely he means he didn't get the long rule that he wanted.
But the fact is that he was classed as the Hokage even if it was for a day or so...

Well if the leaf needed a new Hokage I would have to say Yamato. He's an ANBU, really strong and smart. The hokage should be the strongest ninja in the village. And I think Kakashi, Gai, and Yamato are in a close in that catagory.

In regards to Shikaku,
When your strategy is near perfect, you need a lot less brute strength to accomplish the same goal. But on the flip side, we also haven't seen the full extend of his strength. Assumingly he'll be at least as physically powerful as Shikimaru, mostly likely much moreso due to experience. He's also more intelligent than Shikimaru (case & point: the two of them are playing shogi shortly after Asuma's death & his father kicks his but & Shikimaru can't believe it, remaking how much better his dad is than Asuma), so he'd do very well in the head chair.
Though personally, I think Kakashi would be good. He is quite powerful, highly analytical & sees the big picture quickly & easily. All great leadership qualities. Also he was just about to become the hokage if Tsunade didn't wake up, so it's likely the elders & the feudal lord would choose him.
And on Gai sensei, oy... He may be strong, but he's dumb as an ox. You need a good bit of intelligence to lead a village, it's not just about beating stuff up. C'mon, he couldn't even remember the name of his archi-rival and they fought several times! How's someone like that supposed to lead a village?
