i have a theory, what if madara created zetsu? wait, read on. this isnt some no-proof post. zetsu still calls madara tobi. who many ppl believe is the name madara went by during his time in hiding. suggesting that madara and zetsu knew each other well before the time of the akatsuki. now, to it. here's what i think...
madara steals the 1st's DNA during the big fight. mixes it with some of his own power to make a new body. goes wrong. becomes zetsu. this can explain the split personalities. white=hashirama, black=madara. wait, there's more. white's powers are similar to the 1st's. spores and all? the black's power are similar to madara's. teleportation(sort of)
so anyway, thts what i think =)

NOpe. That's why Kabuto needed Yamato to improve the zetsus that's in the manga. But my best guess is Zetsu is Kakashi's old team member the one that gave him the sharingan eye. Madara found him and reconstructed his right side and that's why is black.
