They carry it in there dna but can not active it...
The may past it to there male offspring but only if their mate has Uchiha blood...

Well actually Tsunadei is shown to use the power of the Senju clan. As well as Naruto's mom etc etc.

I don't see how females being able to awaken the sharingan would ruin the reputation of the Uchiha.. because you're female you can't be badass shinobi? Tsunade and Mei are kages and they're both pretty badass. I'm pretty sure the females can awaken them too, we just haven't seen any prominent female uchiha character to show it. It'd be pretty lame/weird if they couldn't
