how did Itachi get his mangekyo sharingan

In order to gain MS you have to witness someone close dying in front of you or just losing someone and through training while remember that person it will eventually awaken.

Tobi only stated that to awaken MS is to kill your best friend because that's the most fastest and easiest if you have a cold heart and don't care about others.

Itachi most likely awakened his due to the sacrifice he saw Shisui make and in his statement he said after he gave his eye Shusui died silently. We don't know if Itachi put him to rest or if he passed away in front of him or somewhere else after the eye was taken.

There has to be another way. In fact nobody so far has gotten the MS by killing their best friend. Shisui, Itachi, Sasuke and Kakashi have all gotten it through other methods.

they trained to get there ms... izuna gave his eyes to madara cuz he overused ms, therefore getting ems, izuna died in battle blind.... y didn't they give eachother their eyes?????

Well thats what i just said aswell:
Kakashi gained trough blaming himself
Sasuke after itachi's death ( stated by madara ) itachi just gave him amaterasu to try to kill madara if he would approach sasuke.
Itachi MOST proberly after shishui sacrificed himself and gave his eye to itachi. ( MOST logical theory for now since he stated he didnt kill him )
Shishui i just doubt he killed a friend, maybe trough hard training aswell. his method is most mystery for now.

could there be another way of unlocking the ms than what tobi described and that's why kakashi has one.

Just wanted tosay, that as I stated before in this forum,killing someone you love is not the only way of earning power, hitherto, stated, neither earning a MS.
