A recent attack in Norway by terrorist Anders Behring Breivik -- who killed 77 people at a political youth camp -- has caused various Norwegian retailers to pull violent video games from their stores' shelves, according to reports by Aftenposten and Gamers Globe. In Breivik's manifesto, he claims to have trained with such games as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Norwegian retailer Coop Norway responded by pulling 51 products from its stores, including games such as Homefront, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Sniper: Ghost Warrior.

"In light of Friday's horrific events, and [with] respect for those affected, we have chosen to remove simple items from our [lineup]," said Director of Sales at Coop Norway Geir Inge Stokke last week.

Breivik, whose attacks were fueled by an anti-Islamic agenda, could be sentenced to 21 years or more in prison, according to a report by the Guardian.

Heres the link if you wanna read it there.

That is wrong, just because of someone's horrible actions, doesn't mean that everyone is going to start doing the same thing.

They should still sell them games, Not everyone is going to play them and say "Oh yeah, lets do That in real life"

But that guy deserves the 21 years in prison.

Didnt he say in an interview somewhere that he trained by playing games such as "Call of Duty: Modern warfare 2" and other similar.

I dont blame them for pulling the sales because of that statement...

It's just the time for mass-media to start using their undeserved influence to create another element to blame in the tragedy that happened. Media is ignorant, biased and sometimes lacks a lot of criticism towards their own sources.

For instance, right after the perpetrator of the attacks on Norway was caught and made official, there were mentions of World of Warcraft in a lot of articles, and the main tabloid newspaper of Norway (VG - Verdens Gang) managed to say something like this: "It was recently discovered that Anders Behring Breivik had a love for video games such as World of Warcraft, where the motive is to kill other living beings. In association with this game he posted a picture of this gunbarrel".

Sure, if they were pointing fingers at Call of Duty or whatnot I wouldn't be as surprised, but to blame WoW, an adventure RPG based vaguely on medieval themes with fairy tail creatures and other mythcal things, where guns hardly even exist beside old blunderbusses, they step in a pile of dog shit and ultimately show people that won't eat all their crap that they really don't know what the **** they're talking about.

Oh, dear... When will they learn.. I can't believe there are still authorities out there who play the 'blame the video games' card..

(am from Norway myself, by the way)

I thought it was generally accepted that people who become more violent from computer games already have a few screws lose, to put it bluntly..

I guess computer games are such an easy scape goat, they just can't help themselves. *sigh*

w-w-wha....?! Their t-taking away my violent video games?!?!?! *foams at mouth* C-c-n-n-need violent video games... must.... kill.... must kill politicians.... need to shoot.... must kill...

xd Yeah, real smart. Take away the thing that lets people take anger out on virtual characters instead of real people. Now all these gamers are going to be bored, pissed off, angry, and will not have any new games to play. Good job Norway now your going to have a bunch of pissed off gamers angry and without anything to do besides protest or buy games illegally. Really going to solve the problem...

I'm not sure you haven't noticed yet but for the past 10,000 years humans have killed each other on a daily basis without video games or ANY electronics/tv. Taking away those things will not help matters. Infact video games give people an outlet for their anger. I know quite a few people that when they get really pissed off go play halo or some FPS to vent their anger, and it doesn't hurt anyone. Now they will keep that anger and vent it in the real world. Good job norway good job -_-;;
