I just finished re-watching the fights between Pain and Jiraiya and Pain and Naruto and something occured to me...
The chakra recievers that Nagato places each of the bodies in Pain transmit his own chakra into them, which is what allows them to move and to preform techniques as if they were alive when infact they're actually dead. The 6 paths of Pain and their bodies are nothing more then corpses that are being fed chakra and specific abilities. The abilities they have are all Nagato's abilities of the Rinningan. The actual bodies are being controled by him and they themselves aren't actually preforming the techniques. Nagato is the one using all of their techniques (The Almighty Push and pull, chakra absorption, Mind reading/soul extraction, Summoning, Ressurection, and I'm not sure about the Assura paths abilities). I assumed that Nagato's abilities to use his 6 Paths came after he was forced to kill Yahiko and summon Gedo Mazo as he would've been able to stop Hanzo before hand I believe. What I'm getting at is that Nagato is feeding all the techniques that these paths can use, into the bodies that control each path. It can also be assumed that they can be used simultaniously since the Paths went around in Konoha interrogating shinobi using their individual abilities to do so, all at once.
Now this may be common knowledge but my theory is (I apologize if I'm late to the party on it) about Nagato's level of mastery of his Rinningan. I don't believe that Nagato was capable of using the five or six (unsure with the Assura path being a robot basically) techniques that he feeds to the paths, through his one body, meaning in order for him to use the techniques simultainiously as he's done with them in their seprate bodies, he needs seprate bodies to use as focus points for each technique so he can concentrate his Rinningan's abilities individually. He can't comprehend how to use them through one source so he needs individual sources to focus them on. He's seen as a frail man (his true form) who can't even walk, for what I believe is because of the Demonic Statue, and his inibility control his chakra well enough to preform certain techniques that require great amounts of chakra (i.e Chibaku Tensai or his Great Almighty Push which he used on the village). His level of mastery of the Rinningan is limited to not actually being able to use the techniques he feeds to bodies, through his own body which I would see as being more useful and demonstrating more power. Although the Paths individual bodies out number their opponents and the ability of the linked vision is extreamly useful (really only in covering the blindspots of the other paths but 12 eyes are better then 2), if one shinobi were to be able to control all those powers into one singular form, the only real problem is the five second interval for his Almighty Push and pull. In a battle against multiple shinobi his primary weapon could be those techniques and during the five second interval, where he can't use the jutsu he could absorb chakra based ninjutsu, he still has his taijutsu and great deal of speed (as each body has demonstrated however his frail form could mean his physical being couldn't keep up), his summons, and not to mention his five elements which Jiraiya said he was able to master all by the time the boy was 10. I was thinking and I know the advantages of the 6 Paths are the numbers and the linked vission making them more difficult to take down but I still see that the one form may be more useful then the six individuals, seeing as if one of the paths are taken down that ability is useless but through one body the technique is only useless if the user is defeated. Without the paths there is the loss of the combined vision that allows the blind spots to be seen but even so I find it to be more minor the major in this situation.
This is my theory, I never really looked at it this way before so that's why I'm saying it. I ask that if you have something to criticize that you do it respectfully, thank you.
