Both have completly different fighting styles. Neji is close range, while Kankuro is long range. This is a tough match up. Neji's gental fist, has recently been proven to be usable from at least a mid-ranged perspective, his airpalm. He has his Eight Trigrams Heavanly rotation defense that could keep weapons lased with poision away from him and his near 360 degree vision makes him aware of his surroundings. In the event that Neji gets close enough to Kankuro to strike he can disrupt his chakra which would make his puppetry usless (the need for chakra threads to control them), or could strike fatally with his Eight Trigrams. He could also destroy Kankuro's puppets if they get close enough to him with his mountain crusher. Kankuro has the advantage so long as he keeps Neji away from him. Kankuro's puppets have all sorts of unseen compartments, hidden poision weapons and mechanical features. Assuming neither knows the weakpoints and strengths of the other to an extreme other then at what range they fight, I'd say Neji for his defense, speed and his chakra manipulating taijutsu.

Indeed Kankuro is incredibly tricky. That's what makes him a great ninja! And this is NO clean sweep, either! I say Kankuro has a chance of winning this. Example of a scenario: He can distract Neji with a flurry of poison needles, which Neji would have no choice but to use kaiten on. Kankuro hides Salamander underground (where kaiten can't reach) while Neji is distracted and toss him up into the air (where kaiten can't be used either) and go in for the kill. And if Neji tries to get close to use gentle fist, Kankuro can either switch bodies with one of his puppets or use the chakra shield from the Sasori puppet to block him.

neji would literally see every move kankuro is planning! so hiding anywhere is futile! underground, in trees, etc etc. his chakra alone would cut the chakra threads that control the puppets to make them unusable! this is utter rape for neji!

Neji fanboy, I see. Sorry to break it to ya, but simply cutting off Kankuro's chakra strings won't disable his puppets. He can just reattach them, no problem. He can also use the puppets individual parts in case the puppet is broken. Heck, he can even attach his strings to Neji and use him as a puppet! It's going to take a lot more than that to bring Kankuro down!
