LOL there is a simple solution to this it an xml based chat room which is not ran by the site who has installed the xml file.Basicly it gives you access to a chat site with various rooms but its only for members of your site.I`ve tested it and it works ok, you can set rooms to private add smilies etc...I dont know if its right for NB only Versuvio and ZonDer can really say yes or no but its a good idea.Madara asked about this a few months ago.The other route would be inferno shoutbox or another shoutbox for vbulletin.Both use ajax to reduce server load and so the browser doesnt have to reload.Then there flash chat but unless your running the server you`d have to find a flash chat server to use for it.

DHTML chat rooms are pretty cool, but I've also seen chat cause the death of many forum based sites. Forums aren't real time communication and give people a chance to cool off before posting something. In chat, people tend to say things in haste and anger then it follows back into the forum causing drama which in turn lowers the overall social environment. With MSN and other services we just add who we care to talk to, in a chat room, even if you ignore a person you don't like.. they're still there. I don't see any serious problem with the admin's putting a chat box somewhere on the site, but I won't be participating....

As I've repeatedly stated, I don't do the web development stuff for this site. So I wouldn't be involved in a project like the Chat system anyways

(although I have created a chat server network in the past....)

i totally agree
i am a member on another forum that has a shout box and i dont like it at all
so if i want to talk i prefer to do so in the threads^^

No need for anyone to develope anything new there already made.Yeah I see your point some peps wont faster communication like those who cant use any IM`s.I merely posted the most popular ones for vbulletin.I havent myself seen many shoutboxes in any forum.
