I was working with my laptop and turned it off when the battery was almost 0%. In the next morning, I forgot to plugged it in and the computer died on me. Up until now, everything was pretty average. But when I plugged the computer and turned it on again, I waited and waited and the Windows wouldn't load. I even left the computer off for an entire weekend and when I came back and turned it on, the problem remained. I left the computer on for a while after that, to see if it only needed time to load, but it still wouldn't.

Is there a way I can manually turn on the Operating system?

My laptop is an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC, and I have Windows Vista.

I can access the Start Up menu, and I ran a Memory and an Hardware test, and nothing wrong showed up.
I have the same computer O_O

Im not good with this stuff...but i think bringing your laptop to a friend who knows tech stuff may be the best bet...

Yes. I'm using another computer
Well, what are you waiting for? Just go and DL vista, burn it, insert it into laptop and boot it (or if that doesn't work use system repair)... If all of that doesn't work you can at least reinstall OS (you can reinstall it without loosing any data).

Oh btw, you could try booting from an external OS source, by letting your computer choose the external one over your internal one...
Slow down... xd

I held down F11, it made a beeping noise. I rebooted the computer and this time I only pressed it once. It said it activated the System Recovery, but then nothing happened. And now the pc is just dark again.

I recently had this exact same problem with my laptop.

Basically, it means your hard drive is damaged. You'll have to get a new one unfortunately. Do you have any OS discs? If not, you'll have to get your hands on some to get an OS on the new hard drive..

The worst part is, I don't believe you are able to recover the data lost on your old hard drive, though I may be wrong.

I hear that a lot U.U.
On a more serious note; I got a copy of someone's backup, and with a little help, I found out that I could launch it from his back up to overwrite my own OS that was broke, so I could that persons... You should be able to see somewhere that you can choose from which place it's loads the OS, first should be the internal HD, and then you could insert an external one, and overwrite it, so it goes before the internal one...

I'm not quite sure if this will work a 100 %, and you'll probably be left with someone else's files... Other than that, if you do need to re-install your OS, you'll lose all your stuff :(.

Reinstalling wont mean u will loose all your stuff well not unless u just operated in one single drive and that was the C drive......
anyways i strongly recommend u try reinstalling since it will be clear immediately whether your hard disk is till alive or not.....
Format the drive u have your OS on and keep all other drives intact u will loose all the programs that u had installed and u would have to start the installation from the scratch including the drivers and all.....but thats the worst :)

There is a link to Windows Vista Recovery Disks on the page.

Get a usb drive and extract the files to the usb drive.

Follow these instructions for how to get your laptop to boot to usb drive:

Windows 7 are mostly the same so it should be okay.

The Recovery Files should boot up and give you to action to repair.
