+ rep.It isn't the actual act that matters, it isn't like this situation would ever happen to me. What does matter is the way people think and approach things. This sort of thing can be applied to daily situations as well.
This is a real story that happened to me. Recently my best friend's brother broke a law, both my friend and I were aware that he did this and had proof that he did it. I urged my friend to tell either his parents or the police, I did not do so because I was leaving it up to him to decide, it wasn't a serious enough crime that I felt it was urgent for authorities to know about it. Anyway I urged my friend to tell someone with the authority to punish, instead my friend confronted his brother and talked about it telling his brother he wouldn't tell anyone if he promised not to do it again. Now a short time later his brother broke the same law again, in basically the same situation. Did anyone benefit from my friend supporting his brother instead of what is right? No it hurt society as a whole and his brother learned nothing. No good can come from supporting anything over what is right.
That kind of thinking stifles growth in both the individual and society. That is why I care alot about this post, not because I think my family is going to plot to kill people but because I don't think supporting family is as important as goodness and justice.
You said that my response was heartless but I ask, which is more heartless, to let innocent people die or to save them at a personal cost?
Family is above all? Sure but , there are times when one has to look at the larger picture. For Sarutobi the whole village was his family. Minato sacrificed his all for the village as well.
Itachi tried to talk to his father for years and it only resulted in bitterness among them. He tried to talk to his clan and clan instead told Shisui to spy on him. To the guy who said report it to the police- Itachi's clan was the police force in Konoha.
In his shoes I would probably have done the same. Though I might have tried to talk to Sarutobi one more time maybe- but that's my POV at this time and since I'm not the same person as Kishi imagined. W are supposed to think that Itachi felt he was out of options and time.
