That is within the realm of possibility. Doesn't seem very likely though. Orochimaru's jutsu shows someone who is horrified by death and age. With the way his character is presented it would seem this jutsu is just a way to stave off death with no other intent. Granted it is possible that the rinnengan gave Pein the ability to advance it as you suggest, but my theory is that we're going to get the inevitable emotional revelation that Naruto seems to draw out of all of his foes and find out that Nagato become strong thanks to Jiraya's tutelage (which we already know) only to have his friend, the body Jiraya recognized as one of the three, die on him anyway. I invision Nagato falling to his knees screaming trying to bring his friend back only to posess his corpse by accident than using that corpse for revenge giving him his second body and starting him down his current path. As for the containers, I believe we will find these are for healing, or possibly nurturing, the secondary vessels to keep them healthy. Something about his process, whether he replaces their soul, or simply captures the body from death, keeps them from maintaining themselves. Just theories I know, but it's just what I see happening.
