just finished manga 536. for no particular reason it got me thinking about the big wall of cubby holes filled with Uchiha eyeballs that Madara keeps all o.c.d. style way on down in human resources. curious about the rinnegan and also about that third hole in Madara's latest mask.
probably been discussed here before. if so sorry for the redundancy. can't be helped. am very lazy.
anyway, i got a good grasp of the powers of the rinnegan that have been revealed up to this point, and the whole collecting sharingan thing is nothing new. the basic ocular powers the same but it's also clear that different sharingan possess different abilities which i'm guessing has to do with the personal strengths/talents of the original owners. but the biggest benefit with all those sharingans has got to be the option to use Izanagi and skip the blindness thing.
also, not sure but the suggestion is that you need two eyes with the mangekyo sharingan to use susanoo or maybe you don't. the important thing is that izanagi is a one time thing but it is also insanely powerful and losing an eye isn't as big a deal when you have a wall stocked with replacements.
using the rinnegan has obvious benefits in terms of increased battle power and so it makes sense at first that a weakened Madara would want to use it in the war. but by himself he wouldn't be able to use it in the same way Pain did, the way things stand now anyway. and by having only one sharingan eye if he had to use izanagi he would also be losing his ability to teleport, and if that technique is unique to that eye then he would lose the ability permanently.
to me this doesn't make much sense, especially when you're gonna be bringing along seven tailed-beasts worth of berserk statue monster along for the ride. so what is the real reason Madara needed the rinnegan? there's something that guy is hiding... mmhmm.
