well, actually itachi was going blind. this was stated by kakashi in chap. 257, pg. 9. so it is quite possible that he had ems.... just sayin.
[Theory] Itachi's Gift To Naruto was a way to Unlock the Rinnegan?? Perhaps?

I believe that Itachi only pretended to want Sasuke's eye so that Sasuke would know there is a way of enhancing his Sharingan pass MS that he hoped Sasuke would obtain after defeating him. I also believe that it is Senju/Uzumaki and Uchiha that creates the rinnigan somehow (not exactly how that works yet but its just my thought). I believe Itachi's gift to Naruto might be something that allows Naruto to counteract the sharingan or maybe its just something Itachi gave Naruto to make him turn against Madara. I don't know I'll just wait for Kishi to play that one out. But all I'm saying is its something that'll either help him defeat or turn Sasuke.
Not actually, the ones that have the "Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan" don't ever go blind. THeir eyes will have "Light for all eternity!". Itachi only had the "Mangekyo Sharingan" and needed Sasuke's eyes to get the EMS or upgrade to EMS. So it's very impossible that he had the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan
ive got to be honest the second thoery seems more likly at the moment nagato was a usamaki just like naruto. i believe naruto has the hift of rinigaan alsolol.. alright dude it was just a theory.. and not mine anyway..

Ok, EVERUBODY, Itachi NEVER intended to take Sasukes eyes. The only reason he fought him was to relieve him of Orochimarys cursed mark/legacy. Prof, when Sasuke first took a glimpse of Madaras sharingan he tried to burn him to ashes with amateratsu, because Itachy placed his jutsu on him (he knew and wanted to be killed by Sasuke). Itachi didn't posses EMS but was so powerfull that no one even dared to challenge him! Remember Danzou, he only needed to hear that Itachi is still alive to run for the hills. Orochimary? So impressed and overhelmed, he didn't after first attempt even try to take his body, but he set for Sasuke (Itachi was sick and to much for Orochimary to handle). I strongly believe that Itachi would have killed Madara himself if he was healthy. He wasn't strong because of MS/EMS but because he knew HOW and WHEN to use his power to the greatest extent. He gave something to Naruto, in order to prevent Sasuke from destroing Konoha, and only when he was shure that Naruto won't kill Sasuke. Fight will probably be Naruto vs Sasuke, and then Saske vs Madara and Naruto vs Kabuto.

i can't believe that people still go about making this kind of threads. anyway my say on the matter is that there is no way that naruto will possess a doujutsu. that will never happen and it is about time that people start accepting that fact. were that to happen it will cause an unbalance in the story as it will not be a confrontation between senju and uchiha.
1. Itachi never had the EMS. He only had the MS. He got the MS when he killed the uchiha he looked up to. If you watched the anime or you read the manga. The cops showed up on his door the next week.
2. I don't believe Madara "gave" Nagato the Rinnegan. It is IMPOSSIBLE. Madara did not have any connection with Nagato having the Rinnegan. Nagato had the Rinnegan long before he met Madara. He had it when he was a little kid, and he killed the ninja who murdered his parents with it. He had when he was an orphan and Jiraya was training him. Madara just said he gave the Rinnegan to Nagato because he helped him master it. You know 6 bodies, stronger gravity power etc.

I agree with an earlier post. The stage is set. The battle between Sasuke/Naruto will be Physical Energy vs Spiritual Energy. Yin vs Yang. Senju vs Uchiha.
Naruto already has his ultimate yang(Physical Energy) powers. Nine tailed fox Chakra Mode.
Sasukes ultimate yin power is probably EMS. But you can't be sure yet. The page on Yin Release really reminds me of Izanagi. Izanagi seems like the ultimate spiritual power though. Yin release is techniques, based on the spiritual energy that governs the imagination, can be used to create form out of nothingness. Sounds like Izanagi to me. But maybe Izanagi is just ONE of those spiritual techniques.
Anyway my theory is. Naruto already has the body of so6p. Sasuke might have the ocular power of so6p. Or Sasuke might take the EMS of Madara and combine it with his own EMS. Which turns into the Rinnegan. Watcha!! Just my theory. But if he does get Rinnegan from taking Madara's EMS, I believe he will have it the same way so6p and his older son had it. Not like the weird Pein.
Remember just my theory. Point out flaws if you like but don't get pissed.

itachi doesnt have the eternal mangekyou sharingan, to gain the EMS one must transplant the sharigan of his blood brother an since saskue is still alive he doesnt. Since he can perform ocular jutsus with both eyes itachi has the double mangekyou sharingan. The only 2 person who have the EMS are Madara and saskue who transplanted itachi's eyes after his death. Itachi's sight was blury during his fight with saskue which proves he was losing his sight for some time and he doesnt have the EMS which allows you to never lose sight.

what make me to really want to see this gift is what itachi said afterwards that he hopes naruto will never have to use that power. what will happen when naruto uses this power. i can't wait to find out.

maybe bot dont forget after itachi gave him his power he said i hope you never have to use it in a battle. so it has to be something devasting i doubt its the sharingan or rinnegan no dojustu'sWell.. i currenly believe in two theories regarding the gift Itachi gave to Naruto...
Theory 1 : This seems to be the most widely accepted theory and which i support too... that when the time naruto battles sasuke and itachi shows up(somehow, either from a genjutsu or some sort of seal like minato did) and convince sasuke.. to go against madara.. and the tell sasuke the most accurate version of the uchiha massacre..
But while reading another thread "my thoery on why naruto might unlock the sharingan".....
A person came up with an interesting thoery saying that 'Maybe Itachi gift was the same as Madara to Nagato? A way to awaken the Rinnegan?, at a critical point in a battle?'
What i thought was...
This could end up being a good theory.. but there is a plot hole.. well you see madara claims he gave nagato the rinnegan.. madara has the EMS.. itachi too has it.. and both madara and itachi are geniuses, so it could work itachi doing the same thing to naruto..(another supporting point is that nagato and naruto both were uzumaki.. and to add to that naruto has the body of the so6p).. but we dont know were sure if madara really did give or was he lying.. in the manga it is clear that nagato was distantly related to the sage in some way and the rinnegan has reawakened through him..
if whatever madara did really give.. how did he.. and why didnt he keep it to himself.. did he give to only take it back again??
But this theory seems possible too....
naruto's not even a uchiha
