tbh i think it mega lame tht ure all arguin this much over a a character everyone has their own opinions of this personally i think ithink real world sai wud b something akin to autistic and his art was his release i think he is learning to understand and making the effort which is admirable nd his clothes well rock lee wears a green jump suit nd saskue has to half strip in fights soo tbh i dnt think it matters neway as sed it all personal opinions soo reeli chill

Many, many of you seem to miss the point of character variety.

If you were going to kill Sai, might as well kill Shikamaru, Omoi, and any other somewhat silent character.

The stoic characters balance out the cast and are sometimes even more pleasurable to have about than the stereotypical, loud-mouthed, hot headed main character.

Sai balanced out Team 7 by not only being capable in close-mid range combat, but also being talented at reconnaissance, something Sakura and Naruto are not.

In terms of usefulness, his jutsus allow many, many things to become possible that weren't previously to most of the cast, such as flying. He also can be used as a plot device, because he's unusually honest compared to other characters and is true to what he believes. In terms of development, he's progressed much more than some of the older characters in the story in regards to his personality and agendas.

Yeah..Sai is needed now and not just a prick as he was before, and also most likely Naruto would gladly risk his neck to save him (he did in one of the movies) But as for the flying thing? Um they could do that since they was kids (before Sai joined in) Did you forget they do these GIANT jumps and glide around for miles on end before landing?

As much as I dont like sai i could see his importance in future arcs especially with his jutsu, hes very underutilized and undeveloped in the shippuden episodes but the manga uses him pretty well.

I think having Ink as his jutsu is perfect. He draws and makes things but never give them a title which means he has no emotions. Now seeing how he is starting to smile and things he probably will start using Ink and giving everything a title. I like Sai, he is a cool dude.
