chunin exam?

how come in da chunin examen shikamaru was da only one who became chunin.... and when naruto left with jiraya for 2 1/2 years..and he came back..ALL of his friends where chunin and neji jonin allready.. 9 shinobi in 2-1/2 years.....K-MON!!!

shikamaru became a chuunin because not like the other ninja shikamaru showed skills that was neccessary to become a chuunin everyone esle just fought all out. shikamaru actually planned every move before he made it. and just didnt use brute force to beat his opponent

i do understant that dude... but do you see my point...did all of them showed this "skills" in one shot...like what 4 of them in da firts year and 5 da next year? seems kinda strainge to me......

I believe exams are held regularly. So for that 2-1/2 years that Naruto was gone, his friends took the exams and passed. And as for Naruto, as he was not around to take the exam then, he remains a Genin. The Chunnin exams does not let pass an examiner by strength and power alone. Shikamaru displayed exemplary characteristics of being a leader that is why he passed. Because being a chunin means leading a team, making decisions, etc. It is not just about fighting.

Well, we never really knew what the details are nor do we have any resources of finding out unless we bug Kishi down to the details. However, considering that they have grown up and have seen how the previous exams went, they must have learned their lessons, already.

I would rather say that they must have displayed different characteristics of becoming a chunnin. Not necessarily the same as that to Shikamaru. Something that must have convinced the feudal lords (they're the ones that decide, right? correct me if I'm wrong) to make them Chunnins.

may i just point out that the chunnin exam happens twice in a year.
so they had 5 attempts to be chunnin in the time naruto was gone. i believe that experience is also something you learn along the way so it would make sense that they have learned from their mistakes

a chunnin exam is held 2 every year. The chunin exam got interupted by Orichimaru so they would have had a better chance.

I think the chunin exam is a every ninja for themself type situation. When they did it in part one it was random one on one battles at first then its a elimination match tourny. Are you thinking about the forest of death and the two scrolls?
