*Take a humongous breath and readies to give yet another explanation of what gates are etc etc.*
To begin with, gates are the natural safeguards or restraints our own body imposes us in order to live a much longer and specially, less painful O_O, life. All of the gates are normally closed and they need exceptional mastery of taijutsu and chakra control in order to be opened. At any moment you would like to open the gates, you must always start in order, from the top of the body to the bottom, except for the 8th gate which is located in the heart. The gates are:
-Gate of opening (Removes the very first line of safeguards the body imposes on us, making our speed and strength increase tenfold, the muscles slowly shredder themselves and it allows the user to be able to use the very first of the lotus fighting style, the frontal lotus. And the jutsu green shooting star.)
-Gate of healing (The reason why the "lotus" of the leaf always blooms twice. This gate increases the effect of the previous gate and also allows the user to bypass the damage caused by it and continue to battle)
-Gate of life (Makes the user's bloodstream speed increase heavily, thus revitalizing the muscles and making the skin gain a vivid red tone as the blood rushes into the straining muscles. Allows the user to utilize the 2nd lotus technique the reversal lotus)
-Gate of pain ( even higher speed and reaction time)
-gate of limit ( Previous gates effects increased heavily, causes concrete shatter by just walking)
-gate of view ( The quantity of chakra released by this gate causes nearby water bodies to produce a vortex all around him, useful against katon users or suiton users I suppose. The attacks of the user are so quick that they actually ignite on fire by the friction of the air. This is shown in one of the incredible techniques produced by Maito Guy, Morning peacock in which the multiple connecting punches produced by the technique release flame orbs upon impact and the visual effect they produce is an spread peacock tail. Also allows the usage of the third lotus technique hidden lotus, in which you punch your opponent upwards and the slam him down as you turn into a tornado of glowing yellow chakra.)
-gate of wonder ( The quantity of chakra the user releases makes their sweat, upon contact, evaporate into green steam. The muscles, by this stage, are ripped to ribbons practically a great deal of time after their de-activation, the user will feel the most intense and uttermost pain. Allows the user to use daytime tiger, a concentrate punch of the user that actually compresses great masses of air, after a special handseal, into the shape of a pouncing tiger each time compressing further and further. Once it is in range for maximum pain, the tiger eplxodes releasing all of the energy and air in a circualr explosion. Also allows the user to utilize THE eternal chaotic dance. The attacks done are so freaking fast that it actually seems there are 3 of yourself.)
-gate of death (This is it, the eighth gate, no turning back nor regrets after opening this gate. The user gains powers well above of what a kage can even dream. Unfortunately, the techniques we can use with this are yet to be seen so I hope. This is called the gate of death because of an obvious reason, it kills you after the usage)
Having all of them open make the user enter "The State of the Eight Celestial Gates" or "The eight gates released formation"
Locations of gates: Gates are based on the chakra concept of the hindu people, but with eight of course. They are located in this order: Opening in the head, Heal in the head; Life, Pain, Limit, View and wonder all around the spinal cored in lower number higher in the spinal cord array and the gate of death is located on the user's own heart.
