The rules are overwhelming without a step process like any game. As I know you play WoW, even then they have a tutorial and new zone that guides new members through the content to get them used to the systems in place so they can be an active member. Nuking the well established current systems that allow long term players diverse choice is a bad idea IMO.

Stick with the system as it is, clear up the rulings side of thing. Make sure there are enough sensei to guide new members through the steps. Keep track of staff activity to ensure this is done correctly and efficiently.

For example character creation. I could break this down easily now for anyone to understand based off the threads made:

1. All bios have a template (Insert link)

2. You can make any character you like, but it has to suit the naruto anime. You can't change the world for your bio.

3. Next step, what abilities can you use: Link the abilities quick access thread that shows combos with links to every ability and how to get it.

4. Attribute points: I strongly advise you distribute these evenly while you get to know the rules. After that diversify to suit you. We can go into more detail later.

5. Specialities: Like before, this is the link... you can have this many specs, these are mostly cosmetic to make your bio more thematic. Example: Natsu with fire specs as the character uses fire.

Do you have any questions?

This can be done so quickly with how the rules are actually set out and explained. With simple guideance it becomes so streamlined. I've seen it done with members I've introduced or reintroduced since the RP revamp.

The problem was never the systems. The problem came from the player based because it came to a halt. It died as they couldn't get tests done. They couldn't get customs checked. They waited too long on bios. They waited too long on ninja world events. With no content, things died. People lost interest. I stand by the fact the systems in place are good. They just need a functioning system from a leadership team.

I think the idea of integrating the NW/Missions with a tutorial would be pretty good, which would also reward players with currency/rewards/items to get them established.
Make it stuff like the first mission is to create a simple biography, ignoring all things like specialties, nindo, clan, etc. Establish something simple like looks, personality, abilities etc. Then each mission/quest after would be a way to introduce a section/part of the site or character.

I said it before, but I think the NW, while it was a great sandbox that allowed you to create your own stories, was waaayyy too open ended for anyone to jump in who wanted to be involved. I think having actual specific quest lines with predetermined conditions and endings would go a long way. You can still have over arching stories and a reactive world, but I think everything being open ended and sandbox was not the right way for smaller numbers.

Id really like the discussion of more RP ideas and what can be done. I think given there has been some time since the RP sorta officially died off, it might be worth doing another poll or questionnaire to see what the rest of the community would want, apart from those that are posting here.

I think the important thing for now is to figure out the team leading it going forwards to start the progress on it. I'd like to see Lok in that team. But as for the rest, I think that needs to be sorted and a clear directive can be made. Not to be a dick, but V and Zise don't RP, so them deciding the direction seems pointless. It's just a fact. I think they could decide or help decide who could run or assist running it with the help of Lok. And just to point something out, the only contributions here so far from the "current" RP mod team have been from lok and Robin.

zise and versuvios can focus on the site. And I would love to help the RP in any fashion that may be.

The forum was active because of Naruto hype when it ended the forum became inactive. The members didn't have a reason to stay here I think we should have focused on other animes too at that time.
I think back in those days there used to be chapters and videos we members used to read and see here.I personally feel introducing them may help in revival.

The hype you guys have created those days you could have made business selling t shirts with Narutobase logo on it here. Members who are good at art could print their t shirts and made business here. I saw so much talent here. It could be another facebook or instagram but too bad it got wasted.

Sorry my English is not that good but I wrote what I felt.

  • Should AB stay anime-first or go broader into pop culture and gaming while keeping our roots?
  • What 3 features would make you post this week?
  • What event would you actually join in the next month?
Thanks for keeping it constructive and focused. Edo Tensei jokes noted. :ROFLMAO:

1- There are too many anime forums out there. This site cannot compete with them. Make this site into a roleplay and forum games site. This way we can maximise posting and attract more users. Anime should be a secondary focus. Rebranding as Gaming Base or even reverting to Narutobase is a good idea.

2- Posting should provide more kin.
Premium should be cheaper to buy in the shop.
Premium needs more username effects. Like the blue name, we need a purple, gold animated names. A rainbow animated name would be a bonus. All cut features of Premium should be restored.

3. I will join a GFX contest.

While a lot of good suggestions have been made in here (I have not read them all, but judging from the length of the posts, their likes and the likeness of which, I trust this to be the case), I wanted to take the time to say, or reiterate if it has already been said, that, above all, we should manage expectations. Most of you know this in some capacity if not outright, but in plain English: there will never be anything even moderately close to a revival for this placeโ€”not in its current state, and not with the RP as its lead. Naruto, more specifically the discussion of it as an ongoing manga, was the soul of NB, and the sole reason most people returned. In this regard, the NDS section was the biggest cogwheel turning the site. That is now long gone. And no amount of contests, layout changes or RP revamping will remedy that. (Yes, Boruto exists, but I for one cannot stand it). So, going forward, I see only two choices: leading with the RP; or, rebranding majorly and moving away from Naruto altogether. The former for ensured movement (and assured death), the latter for a chance at revival. If the former, good luck; if the latter, then the former until the latter's logistics are laid out.

Naruto, bleach, one piece, and hunter x hunter base.

discussion, games/rp, contests.

inactive users will lose customs. Inactive mods will be punished. Spamming will be allowed. No hentai. No alts. Maybe discussion of women. Allowed to talk about other sites and forums. Chatterbox will stay.

rp will have 5-10 multiple choices questions quiz. 100+ quizzes with no penalties for wrong answers.

Forum president will be v. Forum Vice president z.

Honestly reading both in this thread and in the other thread about the Revival of the site and the RP i feel like I need to reiterate some thoughts and what I believe, because I sense that there are alot of conflicting feelings on the topic.

First off, we need a realistic and focused plan for the site and the RP.

1: Roleplay Revival
  • Retire Inactive Staff: No exceptions (a reason for the RP failing was staff inactivity or not doing their tasks)
  • Appoint a fresh, motivated mod team, focused on facilitating RP, leadership should be active in the RP, but transparent and community-minded.
  • Simplify onboarding, make an easy, step by step new player guide.
  • Condense the rules: remove unnecessary complexity while keeping depth for veterans.
  • Power creep fixes:
    • Cap damage/boosts scaling to make new players competitive
    • Nerf/down scaling across the board of abilities.
    • Consider story mode, or seasonal arcs where everyone starts fresh in a side story.
  • Customs overhaul:
    • Review old customs, archive outdated/broken ones.
    • Create a public customs pool, so more people can build thematic bios without reinventing the wheel.
    • Allow old customs to be used in the battle arena, but require review for use in story RP
  • Story approach:
    • Move from one long, bloated main plot to multiple region-based arcs, missions, and optional tournaments.
    • Keep overarching stories optional so players arent punished for missing them.
    • Emphasize community worldbuilding, villages, factions, and smaller conflicts lke early RP days.
  • Incentives:
    • Reward creativity and storytelling with in-game progression, not just combat wins.
  • Structure for longevity:
    • Keep RP leadership roles focused on guiding the section, delegating tasks, and preventing bottlenecks.
Forum structure:
  • Prioritize active sections (RP, Writing, GFX, community games etc)
  • Archive or hide clutter from inactive sections
  • Modernize the forum index for quick access.
  • Add profil customization!
  • Restore features like reputation system and rewards shop.
  • Add real time live chatbox/shoutbox
Community engagement:
  • Revive writing contests and GFX competions
  • introduce game nights
  • Host light novel, anime, and theory disucssions
  • consider a D&D section
  • Bring back social groups
  • consider having scavenger games on site etc.
Iโ€™ll be blunt, the RP should be led by active roleplayers, not detached people, because leadership needs to understand the systems, culture, and struggles from the inside to make fair, informed decisions, and every time weโ€™ve had โ€œmanagersโ€ who donโ€™t actually play, they lose touch and the whole thing suffers; we also shouldnโ€™t be erasing years of work people put into their characters, customs, and stories because the RP isnโ€™t broken, it just needs streamlining, fresh leadership, and renewed energy, the foundation is solid, and with a bit of modernization and better accessibility for newcomers, it can thrive again.

Okay I'm hella late. I was going to post when the thread appeared but got busy.
As someone who never RPed here's my "quick" take..

I came across this site in 09 because I wanted more from having started reading the manga. First thing that drew me in here was form and function - This place had better style, structure and draw than other forums. It had rep bars and it had post ranks (that was cool even if you didn't RP) that you could work towards, and plenty little things that made things engaging like events, Easter egg hunts, and the likes. And it looked appealing with cool backgrounds and stuff.. We have lost some of that along the way but the basic overall form is still there although it has lost a bit of its appeal and function. I say function because of the blacklisting, manga ending and Boruto being monthly, and loss of those tiny things that made this place special. Ergo people left and no new people in.

Next there was the actual weekly discussions of the manga and the influx of people, before eventually I got drawn into the writing section, a place that kept me for most of my years. When we moved over to AB we had a resurgence of people and activities (Christmas Calender daily competitions comes to mind) that made things engaging again. It died down again when it got stale and only thing left active was the RP.

For me, what kept me around is the same idea that keeps you tied to something you have spent a major part of your life contributing your time to, whether that is building something or being around a society long enough that you feel it's ingrained in you. There was really no reason for me to log in these past 5 years, but out of habit I kept checking in and for some parts selfish reasons.

What would take us back to the golden era? Simply put I think we need people first and foremost, but we also need that engagement outside RP (although obviously that is and always should be the main focus). There needs to be a drive for people to go beyond just chatting, something to work towards, something to aim at. I found my goals in writing and competing, others had fun and goofed around with other people, but the same thing applies in both scenarios. People to engage with, that constant dose of dopamine from not 5 other people engaging with you, but 100s of different places to go and discuss things. 15 people can keep this place going, but that will only be for those 15 people and that is not enough for everyone. I need more than 15 people to keep activity going lol. Otherwise we are looking at signing in once a week and reply to those 15 people once a week. After this "revival" I suddenly had 52 notifications at once. That's engaging, that kept me signed in for 4 hours straight trying to get through all that and they still kept coming.

As for answer to getting more people, I can only think of the blacklisting. Somehow, some way, we need it gone. I don't know what it takes, but whatever it takes imo for the long run.

I joined the site to discuss manga way back in 2009 (to tell Mike that Itachi was actually dead lmao). From there I spent most of my time in the RP. I'm made many friends here who I now call my friends IRL. I often meet up with Never and keikou for warhammer.

I was waiting for this lmao

Weโ€™re still waiting for the history of Bianca lore to be revealed.

Not sure if itโ€™s still visible to regular mods, but I recall being able to see the archived/hidden threads which contained said lore back in the day. Now thereโ€™s 10+ years of history since then. #BiancaDidnโ€™tBanHerself o.o

If Caliburn kept his end of the 3 Walls of PM detailing Bianca that he sent to me in 2010, maybe he can share it, or some admin can see my deleted end lol.

We need to make high density posting a priority.

Increase kin payment per post.
Restore Premium to the shop.
Reduce kin cost of Premium.
Reduce the duration of Premium in shop, like make it 2 weeks.
Restore the NB era post rank banners.
Give colour names to post ranks: My example: 1000 and above: Get a Teal name. 5000 and above: Get a Purple Name. 10000 and above: Get a Maroon name.

If we want to revive the mafia section we need an experienced and active mafia player to take charge of the section. This person needs mod permissions in that section.

The same is also required in the sheep games section.

I would suggest adding a Section moderator role for this, so that these people have control over their sections. However they should not have the power to warn and ban people. We need the role for thread management only.
