clay was filler...you clearly consider that filler anime fight as canon. And anbu stated that Hiruzen lost a lot of his strength due to his age (and probably very poor health)
against orochimaru and kages, he used only:
1) shuriken kage bunshin (Oro responded by edo tensei)
2) fire dragon (stopped by Tobirama's water wall, Tobirama then used water dragon)
3) earth wall (stopping water dragon, Hashirama used wood style)
4) summoning (enma, responding to being binded by wood style)
5) 1 quick taijutsu attack at orochimaru (with enma staff) - there he got kicked away by Hashi+Tobi (but planted explosive tags and shattered their legs)
6) seeing the regeneration technique, he decided to use reaper seal, hashirama used more wood style
7) shadow clone and finally death reaper
8) Hashirama used genjutsu: total darkness, Hiruzen caught Hashi, Tobi, Oro and sealed the first two
9) Hiruzen sealed Oro's arms - was out of strength, had pierced chest...end of fight.
-No taijutsu fight whatsoever, no ninjutsu fight while Hiruzen had his Hokage outift (in the manga, he immediately threw it away and started the fight - see 1) ) I suggest you to read the entire manga, from the BEGINNING....so you can forget all the anime fillers (in fights etc.)
back then, power scaling was much, much different. Hiruzen was supposed to be stronger than Hashirama or Tobirama, Minato was supposed to be the strongest.
Kishi then used a very bad ass-pull by making Hashirama ridiculously op...Tobirama quite as well. And even let them say that they were revived "almost in their full power" in chapter 620.
Hiruzen in his prime would be strong as fck...All chakra natures on very high level (even as old edo tensei he was able to use them).
Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Intelligence, Chakra control and NInjutsu skills at 5.....speed, stamina(chakra level), physical strength at 3...according to databooks. As a young dude, his speed and stamina must have been much better as well.
I'd bet anything that Hiruzen would rape any of the raikages, tsuchikages, mizukages or kazekages so far.

Do you even manga? Most of this is filler AND Manga already stated Hiruzen was old and weak. I dont believe he intended on trying to keep his health up through modifications.
Irrelevant, those five nature elements aren’t Wood Release and the fact that he could’ve combined earth and water to utilize Wood Release but never did says it all. Karin neg diff’d what Sarutobi’s weak ass was struggling with.
See the problem is that you’re hoping that Sasuke lets the battle get to the point where Hiruzen is allowed to use those techniques but like he displayed against Rikudou Madara, he’ll try to end it before it gets to that point.

No I know that I was piggybacking off another comment, my point was how does hiruzen and weaker clones catch the 2 fastest shinobi alive in order to do all the strategies listed? If he’s fighting both he gets negged before he tags either with anything, if he’s facing sasuke lol, if he’s facing naruto lol and even loler as how the f ck are you gonna bet on shadow clones against the shadow clone master, and we’re talking adult naruto here, who is a much more collected fighter than his teen self. So how does he catch these fools? The two dudes that have faced the worst of the worst as far as overpowering and weird ass jutsus to deal with. Prime hiruzen was known as a god of shinobi of HIS time, the manga is oddly specific about this. It’s a once held title in an old generation. The dude can probably take on the kage, but naruto and sasuke are in different leagues than that

Based on what we saw from base naruto compared to the other four kage, I’m not sure hiruzen could keep up with that kind of speed. And let’s say that hiruzen does know shadow bind and does manage to catch either naruto or sasuke, what next? Will he be strong enough to bind either of them for more than a couple seconds? I think naruto for sure with his massive chakra could overpower it and I wouldn’t be surprised if sasuke did too, but let’s just say that neither of them can. Naruto doesn’t need to move to use his chakra arms as we saw in his fight against mini shin, and in his fight against Toneri he can make a full sized Kurama avatar outside of his own body. Sasuke on the other hand, all he has to do is look at hiruzen. Genjutsu gg, Amaterasu gg, if it’s rinne-sasuke then preta path gg ameno gg. Unnerfed there’s really nothing that anyone can do to stop either sasuke or naruto besides either stabbing them in the heart or cutting their heads off, and after seeing their performance against fused momo, I mean, good luck anyone who tries lol
