No the movie went straight to Kurama taking the explosion and made it seem like it was enough to knock Naruto out but here we see now it was actually lightweight for him to counter if there wasn’t civilians

I’m pretty sure Sasuke could’ve just absorbed it with his rinnegan. I’ve gotten used to the main characters being heavily nerfed for the sake of plot.

Manga makes it clear the rinnegan can absorb any jutsu, in case that wasn't clear even Momo absorbed it.

The objective was not to engage in a fight with them then and there. They needed to get those 2 villains away from there which is why Naruto had to tank the attack so they would leave. Sasuke tanking it would achieve nothing as their objective is taking Naruto.
