OP: I guess the hyugas are the smartest ones here. They stayed out of the conflict and let the Senju and Uchihas kill each other while they didn't even lift a finger lol. When Konoha was formed they simply joined the village and were recognized as one of the noble and strongest clans. Eventually the uchihas committed suicide and the senjus mixed up with the village while the hyugas still maintained their clan.
