Never thought I was anything special until my friends pointed out how fast I learn things. It doesn't really matter what we compete at, I'm a fast learner so I end up being the best in my circle of friends. I guess that's something that makes me in a way special. But people have vastly different opinions on what a "special" person is.
I really can't imagine how frustrating it must be to work hard and still fail at something you care about. Life's a *****.

That's a great, simple way to put it. You're an individual...unless you're a follower, then you'd be just cheating yourself.
Sounds like you're highly esteemed built...perhaps maybe your friends put the battery in your back, and then you built upon it. The people don't make you who you are, you do.
