The US and the UK? have ALWAYS had an issue with intellectualism and academia, this is no recent thing.
I watched Red Dawn today. A film that is surface level right-wing American propaganda against Russia, and whilst I still liked it...it made me realise that everything from Breitbart to movie tropes to sh*t my dad says...the Right typically discourage the education system and just like Red Dawn...respect self-defending militarial jock types, whilst villainising the nerd stereotype...the intellectuals and the academics. This film was made in the 80s and is still spot-on with today.
Breitbart have resentment towards Universities and favour home-schooling. I genuinely don't see the link? Why is this?

Im at University myself and id love to understand why people consider them left-wing. My campus isn't remotely like that and clearly people with right-wing views have just as much opportunity of going to education. Even if academic education IS inherently left-wing...then it's their own fault that they don't jump in and contribute.
Their resentment towards intelligence is a statement onto itself. Clearly not a value far-right thinking wants. Why could that be?
