Not really without kurama's power Naruto dies every battle. He doesn't have the stamina or recovery speed to such his way out of situations. He's never join team 7 Sasuke wouldn't have to risk his life to protect Naruto and get injured by Haku. The story would follow a completely different plot line.

Naruto couldn't take Kurama's chakra at the time, meaning that Naruto had to beg for it, and Kurama had to give it to him. You're actually wasting everyone else's time by denying something you know is true because it makes you uncomfortable.
