Couldn't they have done better than poor neji?

I mean, I get it... hinata and naruto, the hyuga. I can see WHY they would kill off neji, but wasn't there anyone else that was an established character they could of taken? I mean the dude had 0 anything in shippuden other than fighting himself and a lil war arc participation before he was kabobed. Who do you guys think would of been more impactful? Tsunade? Kakashi? Maybe gaara or something? Thoughts?

To this day, I still think Neji shouldn't have died. I seriously would've preferred Kakashi dying in his place. Kakashi had lived long enough at that point.

I love kakashi, but there's always part of me that accepted his death in the pain fight lol it was a completely realistic and decently honorable way for him to go. Plus with the literal lack of time neji had on ship, it's almost as if it was his only role there

Kakashi had to warm the hokage seat for Naruto. Plus, he hadn't had his necessary 1 on 1 battle with Obito yet. Also, he still had Obito's sharingan, which was very significant.

Gaara was a necessary part in helping pull the chakara out of Obito (Gaara pulled Shukaku's chakara). Plus, Gaara was needed as a Kazekage in the next generation as well (or else they would have to get some unknown fodder as Kazekage).

Neji was probably the best choice.

If Tsunade were to die, she should have died to Madara.

I love kakashi, but there's always part of me that accepted his death in the pain fight lol it was a completely realistic and decently honorable way for him to go. Plus with the literal lack of time neji had on ship, it's almost as if it was his only role there

No one needed to die, though. Neji's death was completely unnecessary. Instead of mourning his death, I actually wanted to pummel Kishi for taking him out like that. Bad-ass characters don't die as cupids mate. :lol

and I think Gai's death would have been perfect. he passed his message to the new generation and nearly had a Kage's death had Naruto not interfered. and don't get me wrong, I really like Gai. but killing someone from the old generation is better than killing a 17 y/o teenager for the sake of a pairing development don't ya' think?

Good point, I wouldn'tve minded if he had more relevance in pt 2 either. Good pick with gai though, I totally overlooked that death cheat

He was also predicted to surpass the Hyuga potential, it's no coincidence Boruto's name is a reference to him

Think about Neji's ideology about fate.

His role as a Branch member was to lay down his life for the main family. This happened in the end but he did it for Hinata (and Naruto) as friend and family rather than servitude.

Just like his pops. Hizashi didn't die for the clan. He died for his brother. He chose to die for Hiashi and Neji chose to die for Hinata & Naruto.

I really hate how people act like Neji's death wasn't meaningful. Yeah it was for the sake of the ship but whether it's intentional or not his death is pretty deep.
