In a recent Jump interview (via 2ch), he talked about the spin-off’s furture, saying, “I think it’s okay if it [Boruto] isn’t really bound to Naruto. The time period is different and because various original elements are mixed in with the setting... I think I’d like it done with freedom. Because it’s Naruto, I think it’s also okay if this character that’s always been around died [in Boruto].”

There are couple things to keep in mind: Previously, there’s been speculation that Naruto will die. Kishimoto doesn’t come out an explicitly this. Moreover, the way the original interview is written, “Naruto” has brackets called nijuukagikakko, which are the Japanese version of the double quote. In short, they’re like italics and are referring to the entire series. Online in Japan, however, people are taking this to mean this quote refers to the actual character and not simply a Naruto character.

Continuing, Kishimoto added, “Having the character gain weight or trying to lose it would also things that could be played with for Boruto.” The point that Kishimoto was making is that by doing things like this and not feeling constrained by Naruto, Boruto can become even more interesting. He wasn’t putting a hit on Naruto.

“However,” Kishimoto added with a chuckle, “it would be somewhat of a problem if the character was shot with a stray bullet or died in an explosion.”

It's not 100% confirmed that he is going to die, because Kishimoto said that would cause a problem too.

But they are thinking about killing the old cast now. However, I wouldn't take it at face value. Kishimoto is always saying bull shit in his interviews lmfao

But I hope that Kishimoto sees that just because they think the story can go better without the old generation existing, doesn't mean they should without giving it a proper death. Because then it wouldn't make sense.

Well Kishi did refer to Naruto that it would be problem if he was shot with a stray bullet or died in an explosion. Maybe it can be same apply to some older cast who will receive some proper deaths?? I hope that means he learned his mistake for killing off Neji.

Yeah, I think by what he said there, he realizes that Naruto can't simply die by something that wouldn't make sense to fan's of the series. If Naruto would have to die, he would need to be killed by something stronger than both he and Sasuke. That's the only proper way, not some kind of retarded ploy.

I hope so too. Neji's death was disgusting on Kishimoto's part

-married and now has a family
-had achieved his dream of becoming a Hokage
-had blessed with great demi-God powers
-and it was confirmed that IF he was going to die. then he would get a proper and satisfied death

now let us look at a side character (*cough* Neji *cough*):

-didn't get any screen-time and was just irrelevant fodder
-never got the chance to meet his father one last time despite that his father was revived with the ET army
-never got the chance to change his destiny and died for the main branch
-his potential was wasted just like the other characters and he was nerfed hard
-died like a fodder for the sake of a pairing development. and his death was so horribly written

Naruto's death would be very sad. that's undeniable (unless you are a Naruto hate-tard). but at least his situation is a hundred times better than other certain characters. (ofc since he was the MC)
